DCarp1231
Haven't noticed a thread devoted solely to general questions forum users have about sports. So I thought I'd start one. A user can ask a question and other users answer. My question to kick this off is:Is it legal for a pitcher to place his back foot on the mound rubber when delivering a pitch? HedleyLamarr
You mean placing his back foot on top of the rubber, or touching the rubber? If I'm familiar enough with the rules of baseball, one foot has to remain in contact with the rubber from the beginning of their wind-up/stretch until the ball leaves their hand. If that foot comes off the rubber, it's a balk.

I knew it had to stay in contact with the rubber, but wasn't sure if the foot could be placed on top of the rubber
OaklandIsBack
A pitcher could place their foot on top of the rubber, but it would't provide any traction and the pitcher wouldn't be able to plant his back leg and drive off it
