That new material/cut looks sooo baaad. Reminds me of those mesh trucker hats.

I'd love it if the Red Sox went NNOB for all their jerseys.  I hope those images are accurate and not just a bad Photoshop job.

IMO, all sports uniforms look better without the player names on the back. Unneeded and probably only there for merchandising.

I disagree. For some teams depending on the rest uniform it works.

But for some teams, most teams really, it looks like, or reminds me of, at the end of spring training when random minor leaguers show up in the eight inning of meaningless games and they have a jersey with no name because they're not really part of the team.

NNOB feels like you borrowed someone else's jersey because you didn't have your own. That's the opposite of how a professional jersey should look.

Between that and the red spring training cap, Red Sox are going deep into the mid-70s look. Next thing you know they'll make that pullover a Sunday alt.

I agree with this. It's obviously a personal preference, and the saying goes, "there's no wrong opinions." However, favoring NNOB is the wrong opinion. I am right.

To me, the *only* jerseys which look right without NOB are the Yankees. The Red Sox home jerseys would look better with names. It looks far more professional in almost all situations. When the Dodgers and Cubs took the names off a decade ago, they looked like really well-dressed high school teams which wore the same doubleknits for a decade. "You're a size 48? Okay, you get #19."

It is true that the name on back is unnecessary. Every player has a unique number; so there is no point in adding another unique identifier (his name).

All uniforms would be improved by the removal of the needless clutter of the names -- provided that the team make the numbers the correct size and put them in the proper position, as the Giants have done, rather than just removing the names while leaving the reduced numbers low on the back, as the Dodgers did a few years ago.

It's not just good for the Yankees and their varsity numbers. Watch film of the Mets in the 1973 World Series to see how a doubleknit uniform with standard block numbers (at home) should look.

Furthermore, the Yankees had standard block numbers for many years. The most iconic shots of Mantle show his no. 7 in standard block. A name on the back would mar that look.

Serious fans of a team take pride in knowing the players' numbers. And, for casual fans or even non-fans, the constant information provided by in-stadium display boards and by television graphics renders the name-on-back more unnecessary than ever.

But the most important consideration is aesthetic: a uniform with a number and no name presents a clean and dignified look.

The Padres are using matte helmets this year. When was the last time this team made a correct decision? 1998?

Pfft yea that's easy. Navy, white, sand, yellow, orange, brown, blue camo, green camo, brown camo, and battleship gray. What's so difficult about that?

So that's still considered a 59Fifty? Weird. I wonder if it's US made. I highly doubt it, but I'm interested to see how New Era handles a pillbox AC on field cap. Could be fantastic, or it could be AWFUL.

True pillbox style for the Pirates.

That hat is perfect is so many ways. Aside from the batterman on the back (which is no biggie), this is perfect. The Pirates really do their ridiculous 70s throwbacks just right...
