Dont know if this has been brought up but the Padres don't go with the yellow the D on the home batting helmets. Really wondering why the Padres even added yellow to begin with if they are rarely using it.

Hmm

the giants didnt wear matte helments in spring did they?

If not, they just debuted right now.

Edit:

yup. Debuted today

Weird.  The shine on the label makes it look like it says "$PAN".

No.  See, they wear these helmets with their blue alts and blue camo alts.  The yellow version wouldn't go with that, and the team that took pants stripes off to keep from carrying extra pants isn'y going to keep multiple helmets on hand.  That would be craaazy.  >_>

I don't like this matte helmet trend, but these are tons better than the softball helmets.

They haven't worn the softball helmets for a few years.  Went with all purple helmets for last four years or so.

I do find it weird that four of the five teams in the NL West now wear matte helmets.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Those gradient helmets were awesome, but these were even better!

I guess I didn't realize that. Still though, an all black matte helmet is preferable. Helmets should never not match the on-field caps.

The Padres revenues are only about $250,000,000.  Helmets cost money.  We're talking about an extra $40 per player here.  Where are you going to find an extra $40 per player in a quarter billion dollar budget?

i mean if theyre gonna do the dipped pants at least make it match the shoes

the black looks bad

And, of all the new crap they unveiled this off season, they're still going to just use the black alt cap (which was never used with the home jerseys in the last set) they've had for years. God, this rebrand is such a complete and total mess. Probably the worst I've ever seen. They're hands down the worst looking team in MLB, in the very least.

So far I've only seen the Marlins and the Rockies but it looks like most teams in-season BP jerseys are the same as last season's. The spring training jerseys were more "use your in-season alternate for spring games" and not "this will probably be the new BP jerseys" like some of us imagined.

And as for the Rockies helmets, that team needs more purple and less black, not more black. I don't like the matte black helmets and it's not so much the matte as the black itself. The gradient purple to black helmet was pointless but the last couple seasons of the all purple helmets should have been what they stuck with.

And yes the Dbacks have confirmed how horrible they look. I brought this up in spring training but the pants are even worse if they're not gonna force them to wear sedona red shoes. At least they had a theory in mind when they planned to have the shoe color bleed into the pants. Now that there's no connection between the shoes and the pants it's even worse.

Im personally a fan of having alternates restrained to daytime games and Friday nights during the regular season, and not at all in the post season.

Gladly surprised when I went yesterday that the Pirates were wearing white.

no kidding about the Pirates, figured we'd get the damn black tops

I am sore, wounded, but not slain

I will lay down and bleed a while

And then rise up to fight again

We're in agreement here that the Rockies need to use more purple, but as long as they wear black hats in the field on defense the correct choice is to wear matching black helmets while on offense. The solution to their problems is purple hats with matching purple helmets, but they seem hell bent on not doing that.

" Blue socks with red stripes for players this year if they choose to wear them."

Go A's!
