MLB 2016 Changes

I've always said the Mariners should entertain the idea of moving on from what's grown to be a little stale in what they have now, but royal and gold a la the Brewers (or what the Brewers should do) isn't moving on at all. I'd like to see neon green or volt for the M's somehow.

I am digging my Mets in their '86 Throwbacks.  They need to return back to the blue button on the cap.

Now, if The Mets could just produce some runs. ?⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️

RE: M's colors -- the blue/gold are the "cool" colors to wear around town. I can't remember the last time I saw someone with just the standard-issue navy cap. There are lots of blue/gold derivatives about though, though mostly t-shirts sweatshirts.

I think they could get people on-board if they switched to royal blue instead of navy. Or brightened up the teal a bit. While the M's are close to the Sounders and Seahawks, those two teams are much brighter -- the Hawks have the neon lime and the Sounders have royal blue/bright green.

The blue/gold pops. The navy/teal is kind of drab.

The Mariners in the Sounder Blue and Rave green with their current logo set sounds pretty good to me. It'd be better than royal and yellow, and that green color would be MUCH better than a SUPER bright, electric green or whatever.

These are STUPIDLY quick and slapdash, but maybe something like this? More refined, of course, but I could live with it.

In another shameless self-plug, I redid a mockup I posted earlier on this thread to demonstrate an excellent way to freshen up the M's current look:

By brightening the teal to an almost-seafoam green (which is still teal, but leaps out more against the navy) and distributing it like the Orioles distribute orange (primary color of scripts, numbers, NOB, cap bill, and striping), you have something that both freshens up the look and keeps it tied to their current identity.

Yeah. Something along that path. The M's could benefit from a change. The harsh serifs, the dark navy, and the darkish teal were really neat in the early 90s. They had a good 20-year run with that look; maybe it's time to adjust.

If the M's changed colors (or, more precisely, shades of blue and green), they'd have to redesign altogether, not just recolor. The whole set just feels so worn out to me now due to all the years they didn't win anything. Ken Griffey's not walking through that door. Randy Johnson's not walking through that door.

Have the St. Louis Cardinals changed their shade of grey on their road uniforms?  It looks almost blue.

Doing a little brainstorming here on this M's thing, just throwing this out there: what if they took design cues from both NPB and soccer? There might be something there in giving them sort of an international feel.

Nothing new there. Still doubt most people noticed. In the photos I thought it was a major downgrade since it accentuates all the things I dislike about the script. However seeing it in action for the first time I didn't think it was that big of a deal even for me. Yes I definitely can tell the difference and would have noticed had I not read it here, but I don't think it looks any better or worse than before.

If if anything it may have reduced the amount of white around it which would be a good thing. Let's see how the home whites look in action tomorrow.

In what way?

Let's say a modern number style (didn't the Blue Jays' original numbers come from soccer?), lowercase NOBS, maybe some sublimated stripes somewhere, an embrace of colors or patterns that usually don't show up in the majors (taking volt or the Sounders' green would check this box). As for Japanese baseball, their uniforms don't seem to be quite as conservative as ours. I'd like to get Seattle out from under the tyranny of block numbers and navy blue somehow; seems like as good a place as any.

Not unless there was a change to the standard grey.  Majestic COOLBASE was only available in one shade of grey, so I imagine the same holds true for Flex Base.  It's essentially the same material.

Go Astros!

Go Texans!

Go Rockets!

Go Javelinas!

Look at the logo in the Cubs' locker room.

It'd be great if they brought that back to the sleeves.  Even the early 90s "meaner" version would be an upgrade over the care bear.

When I lived in Seattle I tried to wear my navy blue M's hat whenever I could. To the grocery store, out for drinks, actually at the ballpark etc. I love that identity and I was trying to do my part to visually vote for it, so to speak. It's nice that they've readopted the teal alternate jersey and have tried to emphasize teal more, but the dumb cream alternate worries me. I don't want them to go to royal blue and yellow. They were dangerously awful in that color scheme and it doesn't feel right for them. Let the Brewers have those colors.

If I had my way I'd keep the uniforms the same, except I'd use a teal number on the front, and go back to using teal-billed hats at all home games.
