MLB 2016 Changes

As seemingly one of the few who liked San Diego's home uniforms from last year, watching games this season really makes me miss that uniform a whole lot. This year's haphazard concoction doesn't hold a candle to it.

It wasn't a perfect uniform and perhaps not the ideal Padres' uniform either (I get the brown argument), but it looked sharp to me at least. Loved the classic design (double piping makes a difference), loved the navy and sand together, and of course, the friar.

Carbon copy to unpopular opinions thread, if you want :P

What does that mean ?

I was referencing this comment below that explains what an honor wearing your family name on your jersey can be (which I agree with) but pointing out how for the Yankees, NNOB is the way they go... which means great players like Mr Jeter do not get to honor their family names on their jerseys.

I like having names on the back. It shows that you've reached the highest level of baseball in the world and you get to represent not only yourself, but your family name, by having it on the back of your jersey. What an honor that must be.

Since the Dodgers intorduced  the grey alternates with Dodgers script, theyve been a hit

in 2014 they wore them sparingly the forst part of the year then went nearly every game to end the season in them. Ditto for last year, and both include the playoffs

this year 8 road games in, thats all theyve worn

safe to say these are the new roadies and the Los Angeles script are the alts, and I wonder if theyll even be worn at all this year

That's a bummer. I get the historical significance of only having Dodgers on their jerseys (I think the Brooklyn Dodgers only had the city identifier on their jerseys a handful of times. I don't think Jackie Robinson ever wore a Dodgers jersey with the word Brooklyn on it, either), but that road jersey with the Los Angeles script is an AWESOME jersey. It's one of the best examples of a script working perfectly with the primary mark and the road mark as well. I say that as a Giants fan, too.

For me, it's a combination of the "Los Angeles" script being SO good and that little bit of piping on the sleeves. Sans-piping can look really good when the uniform is white (obviously, see: Dodgers); but for some reason, not so much when it's grey. Grey just needs..."something". I feel the same way about the Cards and Cubs roads as well.

Okay, got it.

Yeah, hard to imagine a Yankee jersey with name, would not look right. White Sox on the other hand looks good with name on back imo, i wonder if it´s due to the fact that the Sox use two layer/color letters and numbers.

I tried googling it but couldn't find when they started putting the MLB logo on the back of the pants.

I think it's pretty awesome touch to make it look even more authentic.

Anyone have a link to an article or blog discussing this addition?

What i wanna know is: Do their underpants also have the batter logo ?

But seriously, i think it´s overkill.

I'm pretty sure I'd first seen it on the boards here, possibly even this thread.

And to be honest, I'm not really a fan of it. It just seems really redundant and a very odd change to make...back of the cap, jersey, and pants? I mean, what was said in meetings that even pushed the idea or tipped the scales towards adopting it?

"Thank you for coming, everyone. I'd like to discuss the present state of the uniforms of Major League Baseball. Thoughts? Concerns?"

"Sir, if I may, I propose we place the batterman on the back of the pants. Fans are completely oblivious and can't tell they're watching a major league game, and I feel three batterman logos rather than two will be the charm that helps."

There was a lot of coverage on UW about the logo on the pants and the change that the Tigers had to make to accommodate.

Regarding the Dodgers - I do like the Los Angeles script, but the Dodgers one looks better to me IMO.

A blue alt with Los Angeles (for ROAD use only) - OK, maybe, just to keep the script in the rotation - but IMO the Dodgers script is the way to go for them.

The same script worn on two jerseys gets boring..they need to keep Los Angeles on the greys.

I think it's profoundly stupid.  Okay, maybe the batterman logo on the jerseys, since those are sold to fans.  But there's absolutely no need to add it to the pants.

It's just more clutter on uniforms that don't need it.

The rear batterman logo is in case you see a photo of just a guy's ass (nevermind why you're looking at it) then you will know what level of professional baseball he plays.

Bob must have had prior careers with the NFL and the NBA, where he was well-known for his "let's put league logos on pants and shorts" ideas.  :D

Derek94:

Paul Lukas (who runs Uni Watch) also wrote about the addition for ESPN:

And some of the sliding shorts do have the batterman logo on it.  At least the retail versions do:

Go Astros!

Go Texans!

Go Rockets!

Go Javelinas!
