I think the D-Backs should at least keep sand.

Gone. . . For the most part.

Purple, Teal, Copper, & Black all making a return?

I would be beyond ecstatic if this is true!

I should say the sand is still there, but more for logos. As for the colors, black is still a staple in the color scheme. . . however, of the three remaining, one will return.
Copper and black would be underwhelming, purple and black without teal would be too much like the Rockies who are in the same divison so I'd go with black and teal?

I think teal and copper with black as an accent/background is great for Arizona.. I like the purple too, but I can understand how it makes it busy.. I think the Arizona Rattlers have a great scheme and use it well.. It could work similarly for the Diamondbacks

I think this would be a great color scheme too but the problem I see is that there's no team bold enough to use teal or copper as the primary color. You'd have another situation where everything just ends up being black. Kinda like what the old Marlins did when they practically ditched the teal completely in favor of black, which was a terrible choice, IMO.

The gold and bevels and the enormous block shape of the wordmarks in the original jerseys were all horrible. With that said, the DC logo did have some promise with some tweaks. And yes, I do enjoy the curly W.

Agreed ... The original Nationals wordmark was terrible.

I would say it has to be purple then. The franchise has more of a connection to purple than any of the other colors.

Hopefully its not a mash of red with either purple or teal, I can't see that being a proper look for the Diamondbacks.

Perhaps the new hats could look similar this, sans copper...

Yes, the current colors are the staple of the new look, but of the four (really three) I quoted from the previous post, one will return into the fold.

Now I'm just worried that they are going to really screw this up.

Anything that sidelines that goofy Walgreens logo is good by me. That the script is beautiful in its own right is just icing on the cake.

lol. Mostly troll fans of rival teams call it a Walgreens logo. The Curly W has history, since you seem to care about it that much.

I've never understood the dislike of the curly W.

Me neither. Baseball in Washington was a huge part of the game's history. It may have mostly had the same history as football in New Orleans or basketball in half of L.A., but bringing back a logo from that history was a good move and a good rallying cry. Is it from their most famous/prestigious/longest period? No. But what other logo would anyone have wanted?

The purple and teal gets plenty of love and looked good but its so overrated as a color scheme in baseball. I don't get how it's uniquely their own if all they did was grab the two unique colors of the two previous expansion teams (Colorado and Florida) and just mash them together. Total rip off to me.

I don't feel they were ripoffs at all. Firstly, Florida was a teal-then-black team (later, black-then-teal), and Colorado has never really embraced purple at the forefront save for an occasionally worn alternate, thus a black-purple team (sometimes even even appearing to be a black-silver-then purple team). Arizona, in thier inaugural days (I'm referring to before the black sleeved and capped road uniform), owned purple and balanced thier other colors around that. Florida took the foot off the teal pedal and Colorado's still snoozing on purple, and especially did at a time when they probably could have and should have embraced it back then. So Arizona never looked like either of them thier first couple of seasons. When they played Florida and Colorado from 1998-2000, there was never any mistaking who was who. Ever. We're thier colors similar to them put together? Sure. But they used them in thier own way and took advantage of what the other teams didn't. Nobody ever faulted the Astros for wearing similar colors to the Tigers, did they? No, because they utilized them differently then and still do. There's never any mistaking the two, and they have a look of thier own that way separate from Detroit.

Now for the colors themselves?

Purple is a great for Arizona, with it being the traditional Suns primary color (always thought it meshed well with the Suns when Arizona wore it), and for being a pretty prominent color in cultural art (and MAN do Arizona sunsets have an amazing purple color).

Turquoise? Another great cultural art color.

Copper? The state's copper industry, as well as seen by both ASU and Arizona using it occasionally for special uniforms, show that it's a good "Arizona" color. And it sure worked well with the Purple and Turquoise.

Black was probably just a good background color choice, but worked well for what it was.

So all in all? It was a perfect color scheme for Arizona regardless of what other teams looked like. I really feel like even if Florida and Colorado never existed or if they had completely different identities than what they had, Arizona still would've looked exactly as they did on day one. I don't consider it to have ever been a 90's fad or a Florida/Colorado merger ripoff, cause they looked like Arizona.

I'm surprised nobody posted this yet: 100px-Flag_of_Phoenix%2C_Arizona.svg.png

Not that the current colors aren't Arizona to a T:

I really don't understand people feeling the earlier set fit Arizona better. I think they both fit equally, and the original set/their current set would be incredibly unique.

Each of the colors individually worked well for Arizona. I think there were just one too many of them. Four colors is just too much, and it led to their original uniforms being disjointed - mostly purple at home, mostly black on the road.

Black with turquoise and slight copper accents would have been my preferred color scheme.

This is exactly what I was thinking to all these suggestions that have been leaping out the last few pages. With the Giants and the Rockies in their division being predominantly black and the Rockies already being predominantly black with a little purple, changing from an identity that's unique in the majors to mostly black with interesting accents just seems like going the way of the Marlins, something which I've watched so many people decry for years.

I think the best way to go to combine them both would be Purple/Sedona as the primary, the other as the secondary, and sand and black accents. Of course, copper could sub in for the sand. And yes, that's a lot of colors, but I'm expecting them to stick with their relatively complex A logo.

I can't figure out what was so bad about Turner Field that it needed to be abandoned. I've never been to Atlanta so obviously I'm not familiar with the area, but from what I've read, seems the main reason is that most of the Braves' fan base is now coming from the suburbs and other areas relatively far from the stadium. Is that really the only issue?

Just kind of a shame, really... You've got some stadiums that have stood the test of time, like Wrigley, Fenway, even more recent ones like Dodger Stadium and Kauffman Stadium, then you've got newer ones that you think would last just as long, but nope... Two decades and they're junked.

Arizona should switch to their exact 2001 set, that is what they won their World Series in and it still looks good today.

It is the 15th Anniversary.

On a side note, this is how the Padres new look sounds (except for the camo and fauxback, because it's late, I'm tired, and I don't want to fool around with figuring that out tonight):

It will easily divide this board.

So it is gonna be some terrible mishmash of the previous two sets, huh?

What's worse in your opinion, the way the new colors work/don't work together, or the new(?) logos (cap, jersey scripts)? Do you personally think the new update is an improvement over the current set, or no?

EDIT: I just picked up a bit of info on the changes from the New Era Cap Talk board. That is a FANTASTIC spot to get this kinda info.

Sounds... Interesting. But I think I'm even more confused now than I was before.

Dbacks will be doing something Dec 3rd...

Padres are doing tweaks, a bit half assed although there will be an alt that will make your blue eyes brown...

And the BP cap will "sort of" become an AC Poly Cap?

I think TVIXX got it........ I too, think the Diamondbacks will just reintroduce Copper to go along with Sedona red and black. Purple and red together don't work at all, but if they work in some turquoise, I am more than cool with that. :)

I like that comment about the Padres' alt "Making your blue eyes brown". Nice :) Thanks, Pads. It's a start.

Hate that second set. And the first set is fine, but I could do without the vest. I've never liked vests very much in baseball.
