MLB 2016 Changes

I really like this idea of the d-backs bringing back turquoise and combining it with the sand and brick. And I don't mind an expansion team from the 90's that plays in a new market being unconventional. The marlins were supposed to be the unconventional team, but they failed. We survive the 70's pirates, baseball will survive a little snakeskin sublimation. But the color scheme is what I'm happiest about, has the potential to look very good, even in a more subdued set. Kind of reminds me of that McDonalds in Arizona that was forced to make its golden arches turquoise so that it would fit in better with the landscape

The Dbacks all purple home cap had an A that was jade green not really turquoise like original black road cap. Jade green and sedona red could be cool with copper and black.

Okay be it's that the Padres home mark in that concept looks more like the 70s version than the road font.

All right, you got me there. I did take the text from a concept series I did a while back (and still need to get back to), which was using the team's original script. When I took it to work off of, though, I found that at scale it seemed to fit the current text perfectly. Looking back, the A is totally off, but besides that it's not that different, save for being more spread out, but I would hope they'd spread it out since it has less letters. Teams generally squish their city names to keep the two wordmarks the same size. Fortunately, it looks as though it didn't matter either way.

The wavy 'Padres' on the old set (last year) is gone, as is the friar. The fauxback is a brown cap, but the 'SD' is also brown, so what do you think is going on there. Jersey color is brown, but in this new font.

With those concepts merge Home and alt 1 for new home uniform and for the fauxback merge home, alt 2 & 3.

Huh... Crossing the current blue alt with my version of the home? I doubt that something as small as the Padres PETCO sleeve patch would prompt this, and since the jerseys are otherwise the exact same save for one thing, I'm guessing this means the SD logo from the alt will be the new home wordmark.

One thing that disturbs me is that you said the fauxback's "jersey color is brown". So they're going to use the home pants? I guess that would explain dropping the pants striping, as they can just use the one kind of pant for both the home and fauxback, much in the vein of my cynical feelings on them trying to use as little extra gear as possible. I'm, saddened to hear them not going full-force with the fauxback like the Rays do, but it sounds from your hints like we are getting the Taco Bell caps, and that's cool.

Diamondbacks could also pull off being black/copper primarily, with turquoise and red as accents.. Copper might be more underutilized than any of their other color options in pro sports.. It'd be a unique color to "own"

That wouldn't be too far removed from what they had in their last purple set.

This is my favorite ever D Backs cap. I cold live with something similar returning.

"Diamondbacks" is a bottom-five sports team name. It's got too many letters! When you try to correct for it, you sound like you're calling them douchebags.

I understand the name Arizona Diamondbacks because it's actually a thing, but yeah. I would've been just fine with Phoenix Snakes or something.

I like Phoenix Snakes. It's snappy, it goes well with Phoenix Suns. Even the redundant and everyone's-create-a-team-ever Phoenix Firebirds would be okay. But man, Arizona Diamondbacks and Tampa Bay Devil Rays in one expansion was a critical mass of ass.

Larry, yes. The home uniform is not the current home just with yellow added. It very similar to other ones.

Faux backs will have the same current font but in retro colors.

Yellow 'D' on the home cap. Faux back will fit the color scheme of that look.

Sodboy, I didn't want to compare the dbacks to the clippers, since the clippers are far worse, but these uniforms are unique. I'm not sure what they will look like in real life. The art I've seen is flat, it's either gonna translate very well, subtle yet modern or horrible mess.

Sorry to keep asking, and I appreciate the info. But "not current home with just yellow added" and "very similar to other ones" is two separate clues, right? So if I read that correctly we have a white uniform with yellow piping and if not like the current home fonts, do we have an "SD" on the left side?

The yellow D with a white S on a blue cap doesn't seem like it will work too well. I guess I'll have to see it in person before I make that judgement but I'm not picturing a very good looking design with those colors.

The fauxbacks is pretty clear - brown and yellow lettering similar to what they had in 2015 on white, and I'm assuming the cap will be brown with a yellow SD. That sounds like the clear winner of the set.

You said it, not me ;)

Wow. SD on all three new uniforms, with brown fauxback jerseys, white pants, and Taco Bell caps? Very cool.

Interesting the road jersey with "SAN DIEGO" remains untouched, or will that also be adorned with the "SD"?

More questions on the Padres: same style "SD", or is that changing to the original smaller SD from 69-84? That worked better in the yellow panels.

Also, yellow bell panels on the cap, or is it Blue Jays style with two full panels of yellow?

Yeah the no-yellow-on-road thing baffles me, unless they're just trying to justify having (and selling ) a road cap.

I have to imagine the Padres are in the bottom 5 of merch sales (just a guess) so it wouldny matter much either way.

Considering that it's the Padres, I kind of assume that they spent too much time on the homes and fauxbacks and ran out of time before they could do the road jersey.

I always hated the D-snake logo, but apart from that issue, that hat is gorgeous and would be perfect for the new look, just use the A instead and trade purple for red

That color scheme is as gorgeous as the Yoga Snake logo is awful. But lose one of the extraneous colors - I'm thinking purple.

Oh, one more thing I just heard. New BP Diamond Era caps for all teams next year. Each team will have TWO new caps, and the rumor is that one with have the league logo, or even division markings, on the side of the cap. The other cap im not so sure what they're going to do, but it may have the Grapefruit/Cactus League logos on the side.

where did you hear this?

I can't wait to see what Arizona is doing, but I think leaving turquoise out of some combinations is a mistake.

If I understand correctly, sometimes they will be_______, and other times they will be _______?

They have decided to bring it back because they think it is a tie to the original look and fans will like it. Why not do it up right?? :)
