They knew this would be a rocky thing to sell so they made damage control alternatives. That's pretty funny.I thought about this too. Don't be surprised to see half of this junk phased out after a year or 2. I'd bet anything the stuff with teal will become primary eventually. Is that right?This uniform unveiling reminds me of the picture taken in the Islanders' office before the Edge rollout, where there were all of these prototype Isles jerseys with slight differences between them. Let's hope they find their way to the farm upstate with the orange Marlins and graphite Jays hats very soon. The shoulders are a terrible idea as well. The use of the dark grey for the road uniform brought the whole set up by .5 points.But a few things: why does the pants piping end halfway up the thigh? What happens to the diamond pattern on the pants for players who roll them up? And can we please talk about the how awesome the new BP cap is? At absolute most, there should be a home/road, two alts, and a throwback. That's it. None of this five alt (if you count Latino night) crud. Don't particularly like the dark gray road unis. Not awful, but not good. Besides the snakeskin/diamond pattern, THESE ARE DECENT. I like the number/name font, I like the red/black/sand combo, I like the emphasis on the "A" cap, and I like the alternates. The snakeskin ruins the whole set, no doubt. But take it away, and these are GOOD. The Vancouver grizzlies alts are pretty nice, but I think the current home/road is perfect, sans the weird diamond pattern. TheGiantsFan Posted December 4, 2015 Share Posted December 4, 2015 To begin my review, I would just like to present my unpopular opinion in saying that I actually found nothing wrong with that the Dbacks had before this; I didn't really mind the "Dbacks" script, either.I guess I could say that one team in a league of conservative-looking teams could be innovative, but the Dbacks didn't innovate too well, in my opinion. The wordmarks really aren't that bad, nor the blocky fonts all too much, it's just the shoulder patterns that make me think this identity belongs in college football and not the MLB. The addition of teal is pretty cool, though.I like where the Dbacks were headed with this one, but they fell just a tad bit short. It'll take me a bit of time to digest these... I don't mind the diamond pattern at all, though they could have toned it down a bit on the jerseys. Maybe leave it on the side panels and take it off the shoulders. Not a fan of the darker grey road jerseys. The black scripts/numbers don't stand out enough.Overall, I like this a lot. It's different, which is okay, especially for a 90s expansion team. I don't even really get "creative" either. They're named after snakes so using a snake skin pattern is about as low hanging a fruit as it gets (tempted by the serpent into eating the fruit, did you learn nothing from the Good Book, Dbacks?). In fact, they already did the snake skin thing with their all-star BP uniforms a few years back. Come to think of it that was tasteful as well. At least, more tasteful than this. I agree with the bit about them being a 90's expansion team and being able to pull something a little different, but you can accomplish that without looking silly and I think they're going to look silly. They didn't need the snakeskin on the shoulders, sides or pants. They didn't need truncated piping. They simply over thunk it. IMO, the perfect look would be the Teal alternate unis, with full piping and no snakeskin gimmick, combined with the outgoing DBacks font recolored.
