MLB 2016 Changes

Love the new scripts, the emphasis on the "A" logo, and the return of the snake head logo and turquoise. I don't mind the diamond pattern at all, though they could have toned it down a bit on the jerseys. Maybe leave it on the side panels and take it off the shoulders. Not a fan of the darker grey road jerseys. The black scripts/numbers don't stand out enough.

Overall, I like this a lot. It's different, which is okay, especially for a 90s expansion team.

Things I like: The turquoise. The fonts.

Things I think "Eh, I guess it works for them": The dark grey. The pattern (excluding the caps).

Things I can't stand: The cutoff striping. The NBA-like number of sets. The thigh seams.

Looking at the D-Backs uniforms... over-designed. The diamond pattern is ridiculous... the striping halfway down the thighs... um really? A snake with a teal tongue and teeth? Wow. Pick a color, red, sand, and black, or red, teal and black. They've officially jumped into stupid Padre/college football territory.

This image just sums up how much of a cluster this whole thing is. SEVEN caps? What the hell, D(iamond)Backs?

Over-designed, tacky garbage. And for all of the "they're a 90s expansion team!" folks? They had a suitably 90s uniform that still managed to look good.

This new set? It isn't tasteful. It's just bad.

That set is just a combo of 90's fad colors. Very cheesy look. At least the new set is original and unique.

The thing is, these aren't really innovative. They already look 5 years old to me. Probably because that pattern is very similar to ones I used 5 years ago. These are design elements we've been seeing in the lower levels for years.

I'll give credit when people truly innovate and do things outside the box, because it's impossible to get it past decision makers. But this just looks like someone who wanted to be different and just tried to mimic too many bad trends all at once.

And the new one is just a combo of 2000's fads. It is not only cheesy but ugly as :censored:. Truncated stripes? Sublimation? Side panels? It is far from being original, it looks as ugly as a college football uniform...

Their first look was a combination of what was trendy at that time, this look is no different.

Also I'm sure paul lukas is going into overdrive into thinking of lame nicknames for the design elements found on the uniform.

Honestly is it a it much some of the stuff? yea, the pants stripe should be up to the waist but, eh at least its different.

So basically, the D-Backs have always been about 5 years behind the trends. Even in 98 teal and purple were on the way out...

There's a way to be unique, out of the box and creative without making your team look like that of a lower-level. The Diamondbacks did not achieve that here in my opinion. Their uniforms at best look like minor-league uniforms and many times look like batting practice uniforms. The sublimation looks silly and gives it a yoke-like feel. The side panels make them look like the mesh fabric we see, as previously stated, in BP/Spring Training Unis.

It shouldn't surprise that the best uniforms from this set at the teal-sedona-black ones. Why? Notice you can barely see the sublimated patterns or the yoke because they toned those way down. Even at that, they're not my favorite set on the planet, but they're passable.

I think Arizona is a good team to be non-traditional. They don't have a history, and they can have a bit more latitude when it comes to what they can do. But I think a unique color scheme + a slightly differentiated look would accomplish that. Many elements feel like they...added them in just because of that very latitude they had, however. Kind of like "well, we're the kind of franchise who can do that, so let's do all of it!" instead of using that latitude to make a good looking uniform.

Awful. Absolute garbage, an amalgamation of little league Russel patterns and poor judgement everywhere. Literally the only improvement anywhere in this rebrand is the wordmarks. This is up there with the worst of all the rebrands in the Big 4. Just bad.

That is a good baseball uniform. If you feel the need to combine contemporary with classic, that's how you do it.

I think we're in another period of overdesigning as a problem on the sports world. The last time was the mid to late 90s when sublimation became available and designers went crazy with their new toy.

Now, patterned textures inside of inserts have worked their way into use and people don't know where to stop. We'll hit a crest of ugliness if we haven't already and we'll settle back into a period where designers employ a more restrained, subtle use of their new options.
