I love the Giants uniforms (with or without the headspoon, but mostly without) but I wouldn't go as far as to call them iconic.

Anyway, there's no hard rule for what looks "cheap and amateurish". For example, when the Phillies to Jackie Robinson day and remove the NOB, it looks "cheap and amateurish" to me because they don't use a bigger number or at least move it up, so it looks like they just couldn't afford names.

Something about the Tigers, who do have a NOB at home does look "cheap and amateurish" to me, because that uniform is screaming for a NNOB treatment. Don't get me wrong - I love it and it's one of my favorites in all of sports, but it really shouldn't have a NOB.

It's really a case-by-case and team-by-team thing. I think the White Sox look good with their NOB and number, but I would totally support them going NNOB if they adjusted the number to compensate.

Didn't the Giants only start doing that around 2000? I liked when the Dodgers attempted it in 2006, but they didn't make the numbers bigger as a compromise.

It wasn't an attempt by their part, it was the anniversary of something on their history (can't remember what it was) but they only did it for a year and The Mets also did it a couple of years back.

The White Sox and Cubs on the other hand, did this with their current home uniforms and added the names on back after a while.

I don't know. But I would like it if they made a NOB mandatory for all teams. Makes for a more unified look leaguewide. No NOB looks like an unlicensed early 90s video game to me.

I've always found teams that wear names on their backs, especially at home, to look cheap and amateurish. I guess it helps that it's done on three of the most iconic uniforms in the history of the sport.

I always thought names on the back were more professional. Though I don't mind the Yankees, Red Sox, and Giants, NNOB always makes me think of reused high school unis/minor league unis.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Does anyone know if the National League requires the player's name to be on the back of the road jersey? I recently read that somewhere, but the fact that the Dodgers' uniforms were all no-NOB in 2005 and 2006 would seem to contradict it.

It was a National League rule since the NL was clearly the smarter of the two leagues when it came to league-specific rules. But the NL only exists on paper now and I don't think the rule exists anymore.

I wouldn't either. Their home uniform is damn near perfect, but everything else is a bit of a mess.

The home set is so great because it perfectly ties in the original New York Giants set with the San Francisco look. It was also given slight little touches here and there when they moved into AT&T Park (gold dropshadow, cream base, block #'s, ect) which matched the classic feel of the park perfectly and I honestly can't see that set changing much.

On the other hand, the roads, alts, and BPs are all over the place. But you know what? I kinda like that. The Giants were always a bit of a mess uniform wise when they played at Candlestick, and that kind of feels like a nod to that era in a way.

I agree.. High schools and colleges have lots of NNOB.. pros have the money and ability to customize jerseys, and it's nice for all fans to be able to pick out all the players, home or road.. It just seems more professional to have the NOB

Brewers? First I've heard that rumor. Interesting, but don't like the idea. Their alt cap is already perfect, and I don't want them to introduce another alt based on their main uniform set since I want their main uniform set gone.

If there is something, maybe they'll show it at fanfest on the 31st. Either way, I agree with you 100% It's way past time their current set is buried forever. I fear we'll see a current cap with a gold brim, which would be completely unnecessary...or even worse, a gold cap.

Not sure if this was covered earlier in the thread, but looks like the Astros will unveil their newest jersey at their fanfest Saturday (Jan. 23). See the third item in the schedule table on the link below.

My money is on it being navy

I'm hoping it's a button down version of their tequila sunrise jerseys. Otherwise, I'm guessing it will be an orange road alternate with "Houston" across the chest. Then again, it could be a navy alt like you said.

I bet the Brewers are getting a new alternate jersey to go with the new hat.

Or even worse: a navy cap with gold front panel and blue brim. Or even worse than worse: gold cap with navy front panel and gold brim

Sorry, I'm on an iPad
