MLB 2016 Changes

The green and blue they used to use was pretty much perfect, too. The execution left a bit to be desired in some areas, but they had so much good to work with.

Man, that's a set that I absolutely miss. it was criminally underrated IMO.

I absolutely loved that set.  It's an absolute travesty they got rid of that unique color scheme.  The only thing that could have made that better would be replacing the dark royal with powder blue like Tulane.

I would love it if the Rays adopted a green and powder blue color scheme, like Tulane, and changed their name to the Stingrays. A third nickname in two decades would be a little asinine, but the existing "Rays" nickname is all sorts of awful. The team themselves have no clue what "Rays" is supposed to refer to - a devil ray? A ray of sunshine (ironic for the only MLB team still playing in a fixed dome)? A bland abbreviation of a former name that's specifically designed to avoid offending anyone?

I didn't really like the design of the green-and-blue set they had prior to the name change (hated the scripts with the double outlines), but there was a lot of build off of there. A team using dark green with powder blue as a trim color would be very unique amongst the big four sports, and would actually give the team an identity (something they're sorely lacking right now).

It's a shame it's gone, for sure. And even more a shame that it just barely missed a World Series as well. Gosh, that set would've matched up SO well against the Phillies.

Seeing that full "Tampa Bay Rays" wordmark makes it obvious how awful that font is for a sports uniform. Incredibly bland and generic. It's better suited for a newspaper than it is for a sports team.

(That goes for the Rockies' font too.)

That's pretty nice IMO. The execution of the side panel is better on this jersey than the BP jersey they used as an alternate, and the wordmark makes it look like an actual jersey rather than a BP jersey. The orange hat and undershirts look nice too.

Is it shiny fabric or just lighting?

I mu know it's tough to pull off trim in addition to the the side panel, but they really need piping or sleeve trim because it looks like a BP jersey.

Team says they'll be scheduled to be used on Sunday's, but it can be used anytime. They're also keeping the orange alternate that they wear mostly on Friday nights at home. The reason for the new jersey is because the BP style jersey they used to wear was a big hit with fans, but couldn't be tailored like players wanted due to materials. When it was scrapped they wanted something with rainbow side panels. Their team historian also pointed out that this rainbow pattern mimics the old jersey from the 80's, while the BP jerseys were a different pattern.
