FiddySicks
Can the Illinois defense actually regress to being worse than it was last year? I guess we're about to find out. JayMac
I would really know but aren't people in Illinois (who actually watch Illini football) tired of this guy? He definitely was with the Bears too long and now he is back in the state.

There's a reason to actually be excited for U of I football, even if it's fleeting. Lovie was always more of a college-style coach anyway, big on building a familial locker room and playing surrogate father. I think it's a great hire for Illinois. This would be a whatever hire for somewhere like USC, Florida State, etc - a high profile college like that wouldn't be impressed. U of I is absolutely jazzed to have this happening. Rightfully so. This stuff rarely ever happens around here. Quote "You are nothing more than a small cancer on this message board. In those two seasons in Tampa Bay, they were 4th and 1st in penalties.

Tampa's dog :censored: defense somehow inexplicably got worse under the "Defensive specialist" that was Lovie Smith. Not a good sign. DDR
The fences at Illinois aren't quite as deep as at places like Ohio State or Michigan, but this is a home run hire for Illinois. I think his style will work better with college kids than it did at points in NFL locker rooms, and as a bonus for Whitman and Co., they can consider some of the salary they gave him a PR media buy. The Illini haven't had this much publicity for anything good in a very, very long time.
dfwabel
I guess I will add Baylor's Art Briles. Quote Effective immediately, Head Football Coach Art Briles has been suspended indefinitely with intent to terminate according to contractual procedures.
