34.5/year. That's insane.

And yeah I'd say that's probably about right, jrod. I can live with that. That's basically what it was going to be all along for the Giants anyway.

And on Aoki, no. They'll be fine without him.

No idea where the Giants should go from here. There's no single FA or combination of remaining FA's that will fix this pitching staff. Just a bunch of #3 and #4 pitchers are left - the same type they want after last year. There is Cueto, but he looks like a terrible contract waiting to happen. The best options are on the trade market, but I don't know if SF can grab one without putting a big dent in the MLB roster. Really tough spot, especially when the Dodgers will surely improve themselves. My faith in Matt Cain is at about 0. I wouldn't touch Samardzija.

Maybe the old #55 will come back to previous form, then it´s all good

Price to Boston was about as surprising as Christmas falling on December 25th this year.

I don't think the same can nearly be said for Greinke to the D'Backs.

Baseball wise it makes sense. A 79-83 team who's biggest weakness last year by far was the lack of a true staff ace.

You just don't expect a team to drop over $30 million a year on someone when their highest paid player is Aaron Hill.

I also think Lackey to the Cubs is a far bigger deal then people are making it out to be. Biggest issue with the Cubs last year aside from a lack of experience was the lack of starting pitching depth once you got past Arrieta and Lester. Bringing in John Lackey who last year pitched as a true staff ace will go a long way towards solving that.

It also continues what's been to this point a pretty bad offseason for the Cardinals. They got outbid for David Price and now they've lost their best starter from last year. To add insult to injury said starter is also going to their biggest division rival.

If they lose Jason Heyward to, hard to see them being as good in 2016 as they were in 2015.

Actually, I like this move.

Considering what Price and Grenkie just went for, it was basically inevitable that the Giants were going to have to drop around $100 million for which ever second tier guy was left. Considering that, I'm glad it was Shark rather than even Leake. Leake is pretty much the ultimate what you see is what you get kinda guy. He's never going to have a truly awful season, but he's also never going to be higher than like 10th in the league in all of the major pitching categories. He's the very definition of minimal risk for minimal reward. That's the reason he went straight from the top of the Sun Devils rotation to the Reds rotation without a second in the minors. Not because he was really so great, but because his stuff had already maxed out and he was instantly slotted as a #4, or maybe a low rent #3. That's not exactly a guy you wanna toss close to nine figures at. Shark has a lot more risk, but a TON more upside when he's got it all going. That's the kinda risk I'm happy to see them take, because it always seems to work out for them.

And, I mean, come on. We all knew this is what the Giants were going to end up doing anyway, so whatevs, right?

Now, hopefully they can swing a deal with Atlanta for Shelby Miller without having to give up Panik (I'd deal Matt Duffy in a heartbeat, but, duh. Of course I would). Bringing in a guy like Alex Gordon and/or Ben Zobrist would be nice, too (dare to dream, I'm sure). I'm not so sure how I'd feel about them bringing in Heyward for that price, and Cespedes doesn't seem to fit at all with what they're trying to do so that would as well be a head scratcher.
