Here's the end of the fight: https://streamable.com/56lir

It ended the way we all knew it would: Mayweather outlasting his opponent the way he always outlasts his opponent. I was really hoping he would have knocked him out of the ring, but perhaps that's something a 30-year-old Mayweather would have done and not a 40-year-old.

Without commenting on either as a person, it was really impressive to see McGregor go as long as he did. I think that unless you watch the sport, you really don't have an appreciation for boxing fitness and just how hard it is to throw and absorb punches. Mayweather is probably the best ever at being a complete, strategic boxer and it's good that he was able to go out on top with probably the only reasonable opponent for him.

Also, Floyd Money Mayweather is now the lineal Brawl For All champion.

Didn't pay much attention to this fight, but is Mayweather being 50-0 now legitimate? Because that's some serious bull :censored: if they count this "match" as him breaking Marciano's record.

Anyone watching this post-fight press conference? These poor women are just standing there for no good reason.

They need the $$$.

The difference in how FS1 and ESPN cover post fight is kinda why FS1 stinks.

McGregor couldn't defend himself so ref was correct in stopping the fight, but I'm not so sure this is as big a win for boxing as a lot of people think it is.

Short-term it's huge, as the interest was off the charts and viewership was enormous both on and off the books, BUT Mayweather is the 00's Devils of boxing - defense, opportunism, and patience.  Great strategy but not terribly entertaining.

McGregor coming out aggressively hurt him in the end, but it was more fun to watch, not to mention all the gloriously over the top hype he helped cultivate made this fight stand out.  That said, if he could do it over again, he'd probably be way more defensive, tedious, and boring in the ring.

I'm no expert, but I'd assume that had McGregor gone defensive, his defense wouldn't have been enough for Mayweather and he would have been picked apart anyway. Maybe even sooner.

McGregor's only change, and it's the one he took, was to come out and hope for a knockout early. Mayweather was otherwise more than happy to let him punch himself out so he could TCOB late. As you said, it's the blueprint for every single Mayweather fight.

Ultimately, Conor didn't have a chance and was always going to lose. But if you make $100M, I don't think you lose at all. He's smarter than all of us.

Fought under boxing rules, even if McGregor kept slipping into his MMA instincts.  It counts.

Wouldn't shock me if they both agreed pre-fight to go at least 9 or 10 rounds.  I can't help but feel like while there was no "throwing" of the fight, with all this interest and money at stake, it would make sense for a bit of these guys to do some covert side money taking the over (I think the line was set at 9.5).  But who the hell knows.  When it comes to boxing, I'll always choose the slimy option as the truth.

edit:  Hey, what a coincidence

“I think that we bet 100 on 9½,” Mayweather told ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio after the fight. “I gave my guy six figures to go bet. I have to make sure he bet because earlier today I went to the sports book to bet and they wouldn’t let me bet.”

Mayweather later told SportsCenter he gave a friend $400,000 to bet, but that the friend was only allowed to place a bet for $87,000.

Doesn't deserve it for such a gimmicky match that belonged more in a WWE ring than a Pro Boxing ring.

I don't think this fight will ultimately have an effect either way on boxing, but it's not a good look for UFC. Their main cash cow looked weaker and in worse shape than a 40-year-old who had come out of retirement. Punching was supposed to be McGregor's biggest strength as a fighter, yet he wasn't hurting Floyd at all. Floyd was just toying with him, not showing him any respect.

Now, I know boxing is only part of what UFC fighters do, and they're not going to be as good at it as athletes who devote their entire careers to it. But the UFC should have thought of that before they spent years antagonizing and belittling Floyd to sell their product. They set themselves up for this embarrassment. Hopefully they can now drop their penis envy for boxing and just focus on building up their own sport. At very least, they should know now that boxing is an extremely difficult sport, even when it's not mixed together with a bunch of other disciplines.

In a match between racism (McGregor) and sexism (Mayweather), sexism won. This evens the score from the Stanley Cup, when the racism of not prostrating before P.K. Subban defeated the retrograde attitudes toward women of Mike Fisher. The stakes are always high when you're Extremely Online!

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Marciano's average opponent record at the time of their fight was 31-10-2, Mayweather's was 28-4-1 (including McGregor)

Ultimately there's no real effect on either sport, but hey look at us talking about boxing. And maybe some people that haven't watched boxing until Saturday enjoyed it and will watch September 16th, Canelo vs Golovkin in what should be a great fight and that could get them interested in boxing.

For people following boxing this has been a great year. There have been a number of great fights, Jack-DeGale title unification to start the year, Golovkin-Jacobs and Chocolatito-Sor Rungvisai on the same card at The Garden, Joshua-Klitschko in front of 90,000 at Wembley Stadium, Errol Spence going to England and winning his first world title, Ward-Kovalev rematch, Terence Crawford unifying all 4 belts to become undisputed 140 pound champ, a great triple-header of super flyweights on 9/9 (two title fights and the US debut of Naoya "Monster" Inoue), Canelo-Golovkin in a few weeks, Deontay Wilder-Luis Ortiz rumored for November, Lomachenko-Rigondeaux close to being finalized for December, a match-up of two-time Olympic gold medalists (first time ever I believe). Its been a really really good year for boxing

This. While McGregor still has some boxing experience and is much younger than Mayweather, it's not a contest if Mayweather can still perform at that level.

Still people tuned in because the potential of a monumental upset was still present, because Mayweather could have made a mistake or something that would have cost him the match. The uncertainty is what made this fight what it was. Many non-boxing fans like myself tuned in.
