Ouch.  Looks like a logo for generic brand sportswear, though as far as NA soccer goes, it's still better than the Revs :(

I could definitely see it being a rejected Reebok re-brand idea. reebok_logo_detail.png

Yeah I would expect some teams to get bumps. Rowdies will be in the 6k's most likely. Sacramento and Detroit are gonna improve their attendance just from future prospects. I expect OKC Energy to sell out their stadium, but Rayo signed Samaras which could see some curious unaffiliated fans supporting them.

Speaking of the Rowdies, they offered Joe Cole a contract...

Joe Cole is clearly not Joe Cole as we knew him

Within the next 30 years, does anyone think...

a. an MLS club will win the FIFA World Club Cup?

b. MLS club(s) will become such high profile that they'll be touring Europe for demand.

I think an MLS team will surely make the WCC yet most likely will not win it in my lifetime.

As for MLS featuring global elite squads, I could see 1-4 clubs if geopolitics aligns for it (i.e. if Europe's economy tanks, etc).  There would need to be an influx of younger elite players, & while I doubt it will happen soon, I could see it happening in my lifetime.

As currently configured, MLS "touring" Europe is basically when UEFA leagues are in their actual seasons and/or WC or Euro qualifiers. So when would this occur?

Plus, the Galaxy's tour of Thailand and Australia really didn't make promoters money back in 2011. While MLS is now on air in more countries than either the NFL, NHL, MLB, it doesn't mean that those soccer fans want to see it live in the next 20-30 years (yet).

Well, first of all, an MLS club needs to won (again) the Concacaf Champions League. This year, 4 Mexicans clubs in semifinals.
After that, you can start to think in another step bigger.

In 30 years, it'd be possible.  If MLS starts getting TV deals similar to the Big Ten and SEC I think the owners could loosen the purse strings a little.  I also think China's Super League is an aberration because they're throwing way too much money at European based players and Obafemi Martins.

As far as touring Europe, I think MLS would be more inclined to become more like MLB and continue with Grapefruit and Cactus League soccer. Especially if it benefits the USL teams that have arrangements with MLS clubs.

Nobody knows what the next B1G TV contract will be, like we don't know how much deeper cord cutting or impact of "skinny bundling" will have on sports media rights.  MLS isn't ever going to get to that level for cable rights as its kinda the MLB model in terms of who gets what, but they call themselves single entity. ESPN is not running a deficit, but subscription revenue is lower and there is no more "business as usual". FS1 is in worse shape and Lord knows what BEIn Sport does financially.

I doubt MLS teams would ever tour Europe like European teams tour the US now. The only reason European teams do that is to expand their brand in a still developing market, whereas Europe is tapped out in terms of potential fans who still need a team. If the MLS ever makes manages to become a top league, it might get some teams who fly to Europe to participate in those preseason cups like the Audi or the Joan gamper, but more likely they'll also go to developing markets with potential, like SE Asia.

There might be a couple teams that could tour, although I think it'd be more about cities with international cache - New York, Miami, Los Angeles.  Get a couple stars with name recognition in Europe, and those clubs could absolutely build a brand overseas.

This already happened, at least once, when NY Red Bulls, with Thierry Henry, won the Emirates Cup back in 2011

Well, this is quite exciting. It looks like we may just be on track for a move up to MLS even quicker than any of us expected...

Yes, you certainly did.

I've gotta keep my mouth shut a bit on certain details, because I'm not exactly privy to them yet (But I still have impeccable hearing :P), but let's just say that the NASL making a move on a certain Bay Area city may have changed some timeframes and shifted some priorities a bit. That's the suspicion, anyway...
