Leafs and Wings jerseys are OK and that's basically it. I don't mind the silver stripes now we know that they're not the dull grey that Buffalo uses. I also don't mind the application on the logos, at least it's not that god-awful Photoshop chrome effect.

I agree. Silver stitching > Printed chrome effect

I didn't even realize the Wings used silver in the logo until I read about it. It's subtle but flashy, if that's possible.

I'll respect any opinion that you can defend.

Is the Islanders logo dated? Yes but design wise, it's pretty good. The four stripes was a nice subtle upgrade and the tip of the "I" pointing to where they used to play (I believe?) was a great idea. The colors pop and when I think of Blue/Orange combo, Islanders is my first thought.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Did the Gorton's fisherman hold you captive and you are suffering from Stockholm syndrome? I kid. I kid. In a vacuum, that updated logo is miles better. But you throw in 4 Stanley Cup Championships and suddenly the older one is better.

^ Exactly. Had they not absolutely dominated the league for 10 years and won 4 Cups in that time, that logo would've been scrapped permanently in the late 80s or early 90s. It's sort of like the Packers, or Canadiens. In a vacuum, their logos are nothing special. But throw some history behind it and it's timeless. For that reason, I think the Patriot's flying Elvis-head is here to stay as well.

never understood the love for the islanders logo. Very boring and it feels like a bunch of different images thrown together all squished up in a circle.  Wasn't a huge fan of the fisherman but i can appreciate the colors and shape better. I just wish they kept some of that teal from the 90's to distance themselves from edmonton.

Wait a damn minute... you love the Gorton's logo, but you make death threats against the Mighty Ducks logo?

No. No more of you. You're done.

I like the Fisherman jerseys as well (the colour scheme is particularly striking) but seeing those logos side-by-side just illustrates how much more effective their current logo is.  The colours are more balanced and fussy details don't get lost at a distance, like the razor thin lines on the net.

Unpopular opinion: this was great...

The current logo looks like something a corporation would use. It lacks any personality. Its like someone just traced a map of Long Island from an Atlas, and wrote "New York Islanders" using a  "NY" rather than  the words "New York" and thought it would be clever making the "Y" look like a hockey stick. There done.

The fisherman has a personalty. Character. The Atlantic Blue color with the teal and white gives the uniforms a nautical feel. Waves for stripes, lighthouses on the shoulders. It makes me feel like I'm on the coast looking out at the mighty Atlantic Ocean with the salty sea air filling my nostrils and feeling the foamy waves splashing up against me.

Those Fisherman jerseys makes me think of this.

The current logo and jerseys make me think of any of these

^That came up when I google searched "Boring Corporate Logos". The Islanders logo could fit in nicely with any one of those.

You really think so?  I don't think the Islanders' logo has anything in common with those, since those are all abstracted or at the very least highly stylized representations, mostly with the name slapped next to or below it.   The Islanders' logo, regardless of how we feel about it, is a much more literal rendering of their home market, with both a second logo and the word mark incorporated within it as a deliberate design, not an afterthought.

So no, I don't think it shares anything at all with the logos you posted.
