These weren't bad

but they took the previous uniform and stripped it of all the unique doodads and bells and whistles in order for it to fit the EDGE template. Couldn't keep the hem stripe, but dick level LOS ANGELES was able to stay. Gah that was not a good time for the league.

"Los Angeles" on the hem stripe is disgusting. Why God Why!?!?!

Can anyone tell me if your respective teams use different alternate/assistant captains on the home and road games? I can tell you that St. Louis does this, just wondering if other teams rotate their leadership roles also.

The Kings would have been wise to do single-layer white on black and vice versa, and with a different font than the carryover from the purple set. If they had used, say, Haettenschweiler or Compacta for names and numbers, I think that in conjunction with the black/white color scheme would have connoted sort of a "ruthless efficiency" aesthetic that just so happens to line up with how the Kings play the game. It still would have been bland and simple, but bland and simple in a way that's more in your face about it. Oh, and of course a simple standalone crown crest and not the LA pencil-point.

Can we talk about how bad that Perds set in the Kings picture was? It looked like a t-shirt over a white long-sleeved shirt but with stupid metallic shoulder stripes for "good" measure. I never understood what they were going for with the checkerboard alt, either. It was blue and black with plain block names and numbers, plus a crest that was just a little different from the normal one but not so much as to constitute a redesign. What was the significance of any element there? I'm not in love with what they have now (I'll never love anything they do because their whole cornball brand is doomed from the start), but it's so much better than the 2007-2011 mess.

For all the bird de lis haters I think the bird de lis isnt supposed to be a pelican and a fleur de lis I think its just a fleur de lis with a pelicans head. Thats what it looks like to me. Also the flair around the tip of the beak is just flair that fleur de lis have sometimes source I am from NOLA.

See, I liked that alt. I thought pairing black with navy in the checkerboard pattern provided a nice subtletly to a design element that would otherwise be better suited to one very specific minor league team that refuses to implement it. I didn't like the block lettering/numbering, though - if you're hockey in Nashville and you don a very traditional-looking jersey, you can't have all the elements be so basic. That's why I went with this:

My original plan was to make the outer layer steel blue to match the front crest, but it turns out that was a custom color for the Perds. So glacier white, navy, and sparkle silver it is.

Nice, that's what they should have done. It matches now.

Did they explain what the checkerboards were supposed to be? Vols reference? Racing reference? Just looked neat?

That's what was so great about their original set. It was just so zany and ridiculous that it actually worked in a really weird way. Their logo was Megazord's right leg with a triangle around it, they had an inexplicable electric style font, and a shoulder patch that was some strange illuminati-inducing electric tower with the word NASHVILLE underneath it that had zero connection to the rest of the brand. It was almost as if someone started digging through their old toybox in the attic and the thing they pulled from the bottom was the Predators. They were basically an Iron Maiden cover on skates in the middle of Tennessee. Their very existence completely confounded me and every detail was more unbelievable than the last. It was like, wait, this organization is real and not just some bad acid trip/lucid dream? I still don't quite get why the Nashville Predators are even a reality, but the change to yellow as the primary and the addition of the guitar pick and weird number strings has kinda killed some of the awe and normalized the confusion that came with them. They're basic bitches of expansion teams now, and that's kinda sad.

Nod to the first two, I believe.

Don't forget the third with the three-dimensional anime-style chrome-plated fossil (a better logo than the one it's based on) and the yellow mesh layer over a blue base layer so from a distance it had a sickly baby-poo color. It also had the first scooped hemline in the league, them or Vancouver, and now that's the standard for the whole damn sport. I once saw a person wearing that sweater hundreds of miles from Nashville and I was dumbfounded. I'd have been less surprised to see an actual saber-toothed tiger in the wild.

I used to own one, actually... One of my favorite jerseys in hockey history... then again, I also like the Brampton/North Bay Battalion, and that sickly olive drab.

The logo and square collar are just about the only things I didn't like about that Preds jersey. Dijon, silver, and blue is such a weird color scheme.

What a weird jersey. I had never thought about it before but yeah, the first 10 years or so of the Preds' existence seems fake.
