Round XXII

I. The teams I played for have a combined total of 9 Super Bowl appearances.

II. I was a college teammate and back up to one of the greatest players of all-time. He never played in a Super Bowl.

III. I am currently the all-time leader in this statistic for the team with which I played the bulk of my career.

IV. This is a great saying - If you can keep your head when everyone around you is losing theirs - as long as someone doesn't move your head from it's normal spot.

V. I am a member of both the College and Pro Football Hall of Fame.

I. The teams I played for have a combined total of 8 Super Bowl appearances.

II. My guess is Vikings fans hate me to this day.

III. Speaking of that, I was involved in three separate plays that made the 75 Greatest Plays in NFL history during the NFL's 75th Anniversary season in 1994.

IV. Two team mates and I were the first combination to achieve this statistical milestone in a season.

V. I am on the same NFL All-Decade Team as the player in Round XX.

Who am I?

Without looking it up, just based on the fourth clue: Thurman Thomas.

Harold Carmichael.

Burgundy with the W. Big Harold Carmichael is correct.

I. Carmichael played for the Eagles - 2 SB and Cowboys - 8 SB. His only Super Bowl appearance was in Super Bowl XV with the Eagles.

II. He is a member of the NFL's 1970's All-Decade Team.

III. Carmichael once held the record for most consecutive games with a reception - 127.

IV. He is considered to be the greatest WR in Eagles history.

V. He currently works for the Eagles as "Fan Engagement Liaison."

VI. Carmichael was played by D. Todd Hammond in the movie "Invincible" which starred Mark Wahlberg.

Drew Pearson.

Burgundy with two straight. Drew Pearson is correct.

I. Pearson played his entire career with the Cowboys - 8 SB appearances.

II. He was on the receiving end of the famous Hail Mary play against the Vikings in the 1975 playoffs at old Metropolitan Stadium.

III. Pearson hold three spots on NFL Films Top 75 Plays in NFL History from 1994.

IV. Pearson and teammates Tony Dorsett and Tony Hill made the Cowboys the first team in NFL history to have a RB rush for over 1000 yards and have 2 WRs gain over 1000 yards receiving in a single season.

V. Like Harold Carmichael, Pearson is a member of the NFL's 1970's All-Decade Team.

Cosmic gets on the board with Thurman Thomas. (I figured the "head" clue was a dead giveaway.)

I. Thomas played for the Bills - 4SB and Dolphins - 5 SB.

II. He was a teammate of Barry Sanders at Oklahoma State.

III. Thomas is currently the Bills all-time leader in rushing yards.

IV. Obviously a reference to Thomas being unable to find his helmet at the start of Super Bowl XXVI.

V. He is in both the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame.

That was the giveaway for this Viking fan.  It's the blatant push-off that bugs us, though I am too young to remember it so I don't dwell on it.

Round XXIII

I. The teams I played for have a combined total of 11 Super Bowl appearances.

II. I am one of just two NFL players who can say this.

III. Even NFL players occasionally have to work overtime during the holidays.

IV. I attended college on an athletic scholarship that was more likely to have put me in the Winter Olympics than in the NFL.

V. The first time I did this in a Super Bowl, it set a record.

Round XXIV

I. The teams I played for have appeared in just one Super Bowl.

II. I was the first person in team history to do this in the Super Bowl.

III. I was one of the last of a dying breed.

IV. I was recently elected to this team's Ring of Honor.

V. Despite my nickname, odds are that I don't listen to a lot of Duke Ellington.

XXIV is Mike Alstott

Yes, it is. Cosmic gets the win.

I. Alstott played his entire career with the Bucs - 1 SB.

II. He scored the first Super Bowl TD in Buccaneers history.

III. Alstott was one of the last fullbacks who was used primarily as a runner.

IV. He was elected to the Bucs Ring of Honor - along with Doug Williams - in 2015.

V. Alstott's nickname was "A-Train." Big Band great, Duke Ellington, has a song called "Take the A-Train."

XXIII is Jan Stenerud.

Cosmic is on a roll. Jan Stenerud is correct.

I. Stenerud played for the Chiefs - 2 SB, Packers - 5 SB, and Vikings - 4 SB.

II. He and Ray Guy are the only "pure" kickers to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

III. Stenerud and the Chiefs lost to the Dolphins in the longest NFL game ever on Christmas Day of 1971.

IV. He went to college at Montana State on a skiing scholarship.

V. In Super Bowl IV, Stenerud's first FG was a 48 yarder which was the longest FG in Super Bowl history at the time. I think Steve Christie holds the current record.

Round XXIV

I. The teams I played for have a combined total of five Super Bowl appearances.

II. I am one of just two players on this side of the ball to win this award.

III. Many think I am one of the greatest players ever and the greatest ever at my position.

IV. In fact, I was so good that this HOF head coach created a scheme designed specifically to stop me.
