Major League Football

They have not released logos yet, and it is only through a twitter leak, but the names and locations of the 8 teams for the proposed Major League Football spring league are a possible harbinger that this league is already in rough shape.   Apparenlty the MLFB folks are not big fans of plural nouns (a trend I hate in modern branding for sports)

Utah Stand  ---  I assume SLC is the city, all the teams use state names.  Rolling my eyes at the name, especially with the whole Cliven Bundy group in the news, last thing we need is a team

named after a "stand" in this sense.  Why not go with "Swarm" if you must do a non-count noun since bees are a major theme in Utah?

Texas Independence --- Predictable, I guess.  But again, a political position (secession) that could have been avoided or more subtle if they used Republic instead of Independence.

Oklahoma Nation --- How long before the Redskins/Indians comparisons?  You have to assume this is in reference to Native American nations, right?

Ohio Union --- The one that least annoys me, due to possible Columbus Blue Jackets parallels.  Most likely Akron, so that is tenuous at best.

Northwest Empire --- Only redeemable if the (Eugene?) based team uses the Death Star or a stormtrooper as their logo.

Florida Fusion--- Will the logo consist of an atom or a wonton taco?

Arkansas Attack--- another potentially militaristic (or in this case Confederate-themed) logo?  Not loving the tone of most of these.  What is so wrong with naming teams after bears, tigers,

                                  dogs, horses or birds?

Alabama Airborne--- Not even a noun.  Airborne is an adjective used to describe Rangers or a Division.  Trying to go military here?  Reminds me of the spray you use to prevent getting a cold.

Could have been so much better if they didn't go for the ridiculous non-count nouns.  I will wait for the logos before I give up completely on this league (which has no money behind it yet and only marginal social media skills).

I would have gone with:   Salt Lake City Swarm,  Texas Rawhides, Oklahoma Drillers, Ohio Hammers, Oregon Thunder, Florida Tropics, Arkansas Aces and Birmingham Steel.

 See, two non-count, not 8.

It's a link to a fantasy football league here on the boards also called MLF (hehe nice one). Probably just don't have enough posts.

Is it against the league bylaws to have a plural team name?

Also "football" is one word, why is their abbreviation "MLFB"?  Did the marketing people tell them that "MLF" looked too much like "MILF"?

Many times sports are shortened to MBB, WBB, BB, SB, FB, LAX, CC, T&F, etc. Including CFB, HSFB, or even just FB. So, not entirely unreal for them to use FB and not just F.

Still no logos released and the league who originally published their training camp was to start in February has told players NOT to report next week with no realistic plans to operate.

They have/had no capital, cannot lease stadiums, cannot pay for hosting 800+ people in Bradenton for three weeks of "training camp" and lastly cannot pay Sinclair for the TV time contracted.

I had actually contacted MLFB back in February about job openings. I got a response within a few hours of sending my resume about working as a video coordinator in the league. About two weeks later I didn't hear anything back and e-mailed again. Once again they responded to me within an hour and tole me that they would get back to me. Still haven't heard anything.
