2016 MLB Season

Stumbled onto a piece this week re. Bill Spaceman Lee wants to run for Governor of Vermont.  He'd immediately dissolve their border with Quebec, & move the Tampa Bay Rays to Montreal.

Spaceman would re-name them the ExRays (bow)

Wonder what an ExRay logo could look like.  I don't think we've ever had medical terminology in the sports branding field.

In news of possibly the worst trade in the history of the Diamondbacks organization.  There is reports that Shelby Miller will be shipped to the Minors.

I freaking KNEW that was gonna come back to bite them in the ass. Giving up Swanson like five minutes after drafting him was bad enough, but the real loss was Inciarte. They cut such a huge amount of protection in their lineup that would've made just about any loss a painful one, and it turned out to be an absolute disaster from the start when Pollack went down. AND, Aaron Blair is going to probably end up having a higher ceiling than Miller. I thought it could go that way anyway, but this is already looking like one of the worst trades I've ever seen.

Any White Sox fans want to explain what the hell that just was?

Even with the terrible play today, I'm not opposed to keeping Pedro Alvarez at third until Manny can resume.

Today seemed to be an outlier on how he's played there this year. Yes, it sucked. Yes he has a career track record, but it can work.

His hitting however...

OK, are there any other Mariner fans out there to want to explain to me why the current AL West leaders just got swept by the lowly little Twinkies?

The Twins scored more runs than the Mariners in 3 straight games, so they got the sweep...

So, are the Red Sox actually good again?

Yes, they are probably the best offensive team in baseball, with a above average defense now that Sandoval is gone. Have pretty good starting pitching with 2 ace level starters and 2 other decent starts with one wild card. The only real weakness is reflows pitching which is pretty awful not gonna lie.

Isn't really MLB related, BUT it could have big implications. On Sunday I believe, Jennie Finch was a guest manager for a independent team. Not only was she the first woman to manage a professional baseball team, the team ended up winning. So now, she's the only woman to ever manage a professional baseball team and win the game. If MLB was paying any attention, this could be bigger than it already is. I am all in favor of women playing professional baseball. Start experimenting with the integration in the minors and slowly work up to the majors. Both playing and managing.

Sure, but only as long as they can throw 90+ and hit for power or average (or both). But not equality for equality's sake.

Yea women have hard enough times making it onto highschool rosters you would never see women in any professional men's team unless they are a complete freak of nature. That's just the way it is, they aren't built the same as men, and these are the best of the best when it comes to their respective sports.

Ok, so I normally really like Deadspin (Even though it does have some serious issues) and am totally against cities giving public funds to sports teams for new stadiums in sacrifice of basic public services, but this is one of the most off the mark articles I've probably ever read.

The Giants Are Asking San Francisco For Millions In Tax Breaks

One of the reasons the China Basin is such a valuable area is thanks in large part to AT&T Park. The area was basically skid row before the park opened, and putting the ballpark there was kind of the catalyst for turning it around from one of the worst areas in the city to one of the better areas. That's one of the reasons why their property taxes were so low for so long.

My parents both retired from AT&T and met while working at the China Basin Building (which is literally right next door to the ballpark). The company ended up moving out of the China Basin (up to 360 3rd street, which is now the Comcast building. So, not far, but far enough) because they were so concerned about the safety of their employees. My parents joked for YEARS before the ballpark was built that they met "above skid row".

Now, I'm all in favor of calling out cities who give too much public money to pro sports teams in sacrifice of basic public services (IE: How Glendale, AZ has basically stripped their police and fire services and slashed school funding to give tens of millions of dollars to the failing Coyotes), but this is a bit of a different case, because the "revitalization" bull :censored: that most teams push is actually tangible here.

Again, I like a lot of what Deadspin does. They're usually a little bit of a different angle on things, and they're usually a bit more intellectual than most sports sites (In comparison to places like Bleacher Report, anyway. That's admittedly not saying much, though). But stuff like this is a BIG reason why they get themselves into so much hot water (Like the Hulk Hogan issue).
