No coincidence at all. Trey Griffey doesn't play baseball. It was to honor his dad and that's it. A wasted pick.

Not really, it's the 24th round. You don't find many superstars in those rounds.

Then why even bother having 24 rounds if teams are going to waste picks to "honor" their past superstars? Griffey is a pretty trashy football player, even.

That's equal to the Ottawa Renegades drafting a dead guy.  Or writing a fictional comic book character on the selection sheet.

The Griffey selection is nothing new. A couple years ago the Dbacks drafted a paralyzed ASU player (forget his name). His jersey number was 34 so they took him in the 34th round as one of those nice gesture-kinda picks.

It's like the Rangers with the stupid Russell Wilson pick just to get a motivational speaker appearance.

At least Wilson could play...

So, the Giants are apparently looking to trade for Ryan Braun.

I... have mixed feelings. The team could definitely use an outfielder to cover for Pence while he's injured, but I worry about Braun's questionable defense and the prospect haul the Brewers will likely demand (PED's are less of a concern, and the Giants can probably take on most of that albatross contract). After the Wheeler deal, I occasionally have my doubts about how the Giants handle their prospects. There's also the question of priorities, what with a less than sound the bullpen. Pence can return and AAAA players can fill in for stretches, but bullpen help will be harder to get. I trust the Giants' FO to do the right thing for the most part, and I think they'll act appropriately again.

BTW, regarding Adam Duvall's big turnaround this year, I don't really regret that trade. Going from playing your home games in AT&T Park to playing them in Great American Ball Park will send anybody's power numbers up.

Cory Hahn. I remember that. He was at a few Sun Devil baseball games I attended, and the Devils still (as far as I know) wear his #34 on their socks.

I still think the draft is too long.

Aaron Sanchez heading for the bullpen later this summer, making room for Drew Hutchison.

I guess I'm okay with that, a bit.  He can appear more often & help carry leads to Osuna with more confidence.  He's on my fantasy team, his K's will surely decline, though his ERA & WHIP should keep going well.

Ichiro surpasses Pete Rose on the all time hits list!

I'm not one to defend Pete Rose and Ichiro is one of my favorite players, but can people knock this off?

It's worth it because it legitimately pisses Pete Rose off so much. It's all he has to cling to, and it's hilarious to watch him squirm knowing his meal ticket and the defining thing in his life is being questioned.

Ichiro's hits in NPB came against inferior competition. While it is kind of neat that he has all of those hits in Japan and here, Rose is still the all-time hits leader. Even if he is icky.

While Pete Rose is a bonafide POS and I quite enjoy the lifetime ban he's currently enduring, Ichiro collecting all those hits vs. wash-ups and dudes who could never cut the mustard in the majors...oh hell naw!  In fact, I'd even celebrate Bonds' 762* over Ichiro Suzuki's podunk Japan League hits.

I hadn't thought about it like that. Pete Rose could make the A$$hole hall of fame, and he'd go in on the first ballot of the first class along with his buddy Donald Trump.

But still. I'll be very fired up for Ichiro when he reaches 3,000 hits. To get to 3,000 even though he didn't start in the majors until age 27 is almost more impressive. It's a shame it won't happen in Seattle.

Pete Rose was an absolutely LEGENDARY ball player, yet he's still more well known for being a scumbag than anything else. The only reason he even played as long as he did was to get that record, and the way it defines him is actually impressive in how sad it is. Once that's gone, Pete Rose is nothing and he knows it. He comes across as the type of dude who would get caught trying to hire someone to Nancy Kerrigan a player who gets close to that record.

Ichiro, on the other hand, is all class. Unless there's some stories out there I never saw about Ichiro publicly hating gays or raping people or something of that nature, I can't think of a single incident of anyone disliking Ichiro for anything other than him playing through injuries or wearing his first name on his jersey.
