This whole AL as the home team thing is really messing with my head. Everything feels backwards.

Even the Padres in the road grey uniforms at their stadium just looks wrong

I saw, I came, I left.

D Backs just sent Shelby Miller down to the minors. I said at the time that you t was one of the worst trades I've ever seen, and so far, it's been even worse than that.

This recent stretch from the Giants, in one .gif...

implosion.gif

It seems the June Swoon got delayed by a month, thanks to the AAAA players regressing to the mean and a tougher schedule. I kind of expected this to happen once the injuries started piling up in late May/early June, so it isn't too painful. The Giants simply have to power through the tough patches until they get DL guys back.

Also, it seems that Clayton Kershaw might miss the rest of the season due to back surgery. Oof.

I have faith the Jays with returning Bautista next week should be able to win the division.  Red Sox lose another closer, the other guy I replaced broken Kimbrel on my fantasy team with, & the Orioles I feel like are underachieving, again.

I'd also have faith the Jays could win on the road WC play-in if they had to.  This season feels weird that I don't feel a crash on the horizon.

The Rangers are crashing hard. I think most teams expect a mid-season slump, but they've gone 2-8 in their last ten games and 1-5 since the Break. They've also lost their past five series.

I'm not completely hitting the panic button since they're only three games behind the Cubs for the best record in baseball. However, their division lead has shrunk to just three games over Houston. They need to right the ship quickly.

It occurred to me yesterday that I haven't cared about the result of a Reds game since April, which is actually kind of nice not to live and die with the wins and losses in a playoff chase season or to work my social schedule around not missing games. I want the team to get back to that level, but it's really not as bad as I thought it would be.

What's the Votto vibe?  Do Reds fans want to trade him while he's viable?

Have you seen his contract? He's getting paid 25 million dollars a year until 2023. In 2024 when he's 41 he'll make 20 million.

I think the Votto vibe is that most people love him, he might be the best hitter the team has ever had. The few that don't like him are the ones that don't understand how walks or obp actually impact a game, this charge is mostly led by our HoF announcer who's become an old man awfully quickly. The problem is the Reds are also stuck with him even if they wanted to trade him. He'd have to waive a no-trade clause, and his contract is viewed as untradeable anyways because there's like 2 teams that would even consider taking on that salary. I doubt anyone would be willing to give up what the Reds would want, plus take on that contract, plus take on a guy who will be 33 in September, plus he's said he doesn't want to leave Cincinnati. He's got 3, maybe 4 solid years left in the tank, and because they already have him I think management's plan is to hang onto him as the veteran for in a couple years when the team is competitive again.

My handle on the Votto vibe is for me I'm just going to enjoy him while he's still able to play at a high level. One of my favorite Reds of all-time.

Maybe in 5-7 years he can come DH for the home town Blue Jays?

I like the possible new relief pitcher rule. I personally can't stand the lefty specialist coming in for one batter. I understand strategy and all that but it's a time killer and seems weak that a guy is on a mlb roster who can only get one type of batter out. Goons are leaving hockey so let's get rid of the dainty specialist pitchers and get back to real baseball.
