I wouldn't put anything past Terry Collins, but if the Mets have a wild card spot locked in, regardless of which one it is (and I don't know the tiebreakers off the top of my head), then starting Thor simply for home field would be horrifically stupid. I can't imagine he will pitch on Sunday; it's just a "break glass" kind of deal to have him lined up for that day.

Syndergaard's going to start tomorrow no matter what. If the game is meaningless, he will throw around 25 pitches and go home.

The only way tomorrow's game would be for home-field only (I think) would be if the Cardinals lose today, the Mets blow this lead to the Phillies, and the Giants beating the Dodgers. And in that case, if Collins pitches Syndergaard for more than those 25 pitches, he should be fired. (The Mets have the tiebreaker over the Giants.)

EDIT: And now they've done the smart thing and aren't even fooling around with the 25 pitches. He'll just throw a bullpen tomorrow.

Despite how dog :censored: the Giants have been in the second half, they've guaranteed themselves at LEAST one extra game. I'll take it.

EDIT: Also, to clinch the final playoff spot, the Giants need a win tomorrow or a Cardinals loss. And who's pitching for the Pitates vs the Cards tomorrow? Ryan Vogelsong. Because, OF COURSE, Ryan Vogelsong is going to be the one to help decide the Giants playoff fate.

If the Jays win the WC game, I'm guaranteeing WS victory.

There's no way that team isn't amped & angry over last October.  Runner on 3rd, zero outs, series over.  They don't care who's in their way or where they have to go to do it.

The Mariners are eliminated from the AL Wild Card race...and then there were three.

The dream is dead once again... *sigh* maybe it wasn't meant to be.

Still, 87 wins is nothing to scoff at. I just worry about next season... the trend has been that anytime Seattle was in contention the previous season, it all goes to hell the next season.

The Cardinals have stunk up every postseason since 2011. This is nice.

We need the Mets to beat Bumgarner, and for the Red Sox to forget how to play baseball and we'll be set.

What a joy it was to listen to Vin Scully end his career by calling the Giants, his boyhood team, sweep the series and get a postseason berth. There couldn't have been a better way to end the season. And yes, Scully even said on-air that now that he's retired, he can root for the Giants on Wednesday. The only time I could watch the Giants growing up was when they were playing the Dodgers. I didn't care who was playing, though, as long as Scully was calling it. I've heard his voice more often than I have some family members'. From one LA-residing Giants fan to another, thank you, Vin.

Cardinals being out of the playoffs?  God, yes.  They were getting hot, too.  Good riddance.
