pianoknight 2,991 Posted February 19, 2016 Interesting talk about design, and specifically, flag design.
Rockstar Matt 1,637 Posted February 19, 2016 That was so cool. Makes me want to start creating flag concepts, especially for my cities' ugly flag (LA).
raysox 2,568 Posted February 20, 2016 I was sent this multiple times when I did my Florida county flag project. Very cool, and he makes a great point.
pianoknight 2,991 Posted February 20, 2016 I'm not a professional designer by any stretch, but I could easily make better flags for several cities shown. The Pocatello one is absolutely nothing short of a dumpster fire. It looks like it was made in MS Publisher with Word Art.
ChicagoOakland 1,199 Posted February 20, 2016 I was inspired by this talk to do some research on the flag in my town...to put it lightly, it's a godforsaken mess.
pianoknight 2,991 Posted February 20, 2016 What is that font? It's a standard Windows robot thingy, IIRC.

Rochester, MN - sponsored by the Tampa Bay Mutiny! And, yes, that's a godawful flag.

uk-owns-iu 44 Posted February 21, 2016 I'm glad to see this post on this site. A lot of great graphic designers here who could change cities flag by flag. I started a group to change Evansville, IN's flag if anyone is interested (I would appreciate it).... https://www.facebook.com/groups/ChangeEvansvillesFlag/ http://44news.wevv.com/evansvilles-flag-could-be-getting-an-overhaul/

ZionEagle 584 Posted February 21, 2016 That one flag though. No sir-e I would not be proud to be Pocatello.

pianoknight 2,991 Posted February 22, 2016 Omaha doesn't have a terrible start, but it could use some clean up:
DelayedPenalty 156 Posted February 22, 2016 16 hours ago, HJArtwork said: This is my city's flag (facepalm): That's not terrible. Ditch the black outlines around the stars and maybe space them out around the roundel a bit better. Other than that I think that's good by city flag standards.
PaleVermilion81 2,414 Posted February 22, 2016 16 hours ago, HJArtwork said: This is my city's flag (facepalm): Remove the roundal, and have it just be the 5 white stars (no stroke) on the same background. Nice and simple.
DelayedPenalty 156 Posted February 22, 2016 This is the flag of the town I grew up in. "The flag consist of the word “Tillsonburg” in blue lettering in between twigs of Maple Leaf branches; an Otter, Tillsonburg’s symbol, with Edwin Delevan (E.D.) Tillson’s motto “Forward” underneath it with the date 1872 signifying when Tillsonburg was incorporated from a village into a Town. That date also marked when E.D. Tillson was elected as Tillsonburg’s first Mayor. George Tillson, E.D. Tillson’s father, settled the area in 1825 who is known as the founder father of Tillsonburg." The giant T is what kills it. Otherwise it's a pretty decent design, I think. Maybe I'll take a crack and redoing it sometime.
Berlin Wall 1,255 Posted February 22, 2016 What's with purple as a basic colour? I always noticed that nobody ever uses purple on a flag.
