2016 CFL Uniforms

Of course the team most in need of a change (Montreal) doesn't change a damn thing. Those are arguably the worst unis in pro football, IMO.

Winnipeg is a big upgrade, though I'm not a fan of the yoke on the road.

Saskatchewan and Calgary are slight upgrades. I would've liked to see a little black trim for the Riders to align with the logo.

Edmonton is a downgrade. I liked their striping pattern, they just needed to get rid of the collar stripes and the road yoke.

I'm actually a fan of the BC home look, especially the helmet. But the orange helmet is just bad, and the road unis are in serious need of some black.

The rest I'm mostly indifferent on.

Glad someone finally said it. Not sure why people seem to be fine with this look. Way too much going on.

Why am I not surprised Adidas screwed things up again? This was the League's one chance to bring their uniforms out of the early 2000's and they blew it. Almost every team has a yoke or side panels.

Between that, Ottawa's "Hashtag Pants" (or #pants, if you prefer), and the cheap-looking blank replicas, I say this is a fail in my book except for Toronto and Hamilton which seem to have gotten it right.

By the way, it looks like Toronto now has a matte helmet rather than a standard gloss one:

This is Adidas right? Why are they not pushing all their fancy fabric and technology? Also what's up with the back of BC's white jerseys near the sleeve cap? It looks like a 2nd grader's construction paper art project.

That was my point when I saw the teasers. If these are adidas templates they must be buried deep in the catalogue because they look like they are the generic dazzle nylon yoke and mesh body that's been around for ages. I'm assuming that whoever did the reebok designs is the same outfit that did this redesign with the only big difference being a logo swap.

Video posted on the BC Lions website has their uniform "designer" saying Adidas gave them templates to chose from. He says on the first go around, Adidas sent back a design that way very similar to what they've worn the past few years but they wanted something more futuristic.

As a Lions fan, I hate them. The helmet logo is ugly and the tramp stamp was a bad idea when the Riders had it previously.

We haven't seen everything yet but my 2 cents:

First of all, really dissapointed that the 2 helmet thing is still happening. I don't know why but I assumed that was over.

Team thoughts (east to west)

Montreal: no problem for me. They seem to want to stick to this look and that's cool by me.

Ottawa: Upgrade for sure but i'm still really disapointed.I feel like they still don't really have an identity. They just keep using template jerseys. Embrace the plaid.

Toronto: I actually dislike the new numbers but not enough that I'm mad about it. It's just a slight downgrade. I kind of like that the roads say "Toronto" and the homes say "Argonauts". The matte helmet is cool too.

Hamilton: I think this is actually a pretty big downgrade. The all black socks, fine. The black pants? No thanks, the Yellow pants were much better. If the black sleeves on the white jersey aren't fully black as the picture of the replica has indicated then that is also a huge downgrade. Honestly, feels lazy. Don't feel strongly either way about the large numbers on the helmet

Winnipeg: MUCH better (not that I'm the first to say that). I love that helmet and, as most have indicated, besides for the yoke on the white jersey they nailed this.

Saskatchewan: Better but still not good. Looks too similar to Ottawa and Calgray. The "unique" elements (the white stripe in the collar and the 3 stripes in the pant stripe) are just there to be there in my opinon. No real reason for them.

Calgary: Just the number font has made this set better. It's a pretty similar look to the previous set and I am ok with that. Then they had to bring back the black helmet. Ruined the whole thing. I hate that helmet.

Edmonton: Haven't seen the white set yet so I'm really hoping that the green helmet doesn't return. The shoulder stripes do look weird but, whatever. They didn't make a huge mess of their look so far. EDIT: we have seen the white jersey. My bad, that's an upgrade. Still hope we don't get that green helmet back.

BC: I don't know how I feel. I actually like the white/orange look. I don't hate the black/orange jersey. I really like the white/orange helmet and don't really like the black/orange one. Tramp stamps are stupid. I guess I like one and slightly dislike the other.

Outside of BC, the Als not changing anything, the REDBLACKS #pants and the Stamps black away helmet, most of these aren't too bad and I can live with them.

I definitely wouldn't call them,

Minor league arena football level at best.

The Stamps, Riders and REDBLACKS replicas for sale have weird looking sleeves though. The sleeve gets extended, but the sleeve trim colour gets extended, instead of the sleeve itself.

Hard to say if there's a new finish or it's just that photo.

Here's another pic of the new stuff:

I really don't understand why do people LOVE Montreal's jerseys so much. Its an eyesore IMO. Too much stuff going on, and the font is horrible. I just don't see the greatness. What I want to see for the Alouettes is sth more like this:

montreal_alouettes_2010_grey_cup_champio

Go with a blue jersey and give them that style sleeves with white and red. I'm ok with the silver helmets that they have now, really indifferent about it.

I honestly think that sth along the lines of the jerseys from the pic would be a much needed upgrade.

^ honestly. I neither love or hate Montreal's uniforms. But they have stuck to this look during a couple league re-designs so I'm just kind of like "ok, cool, Montreal is what they are".

If they are going to change their current look I'd love to see a complete overhaul with the logo. I really dislike that logo.

I really like that black BC helmet a lot. They should've just stuck with that one and added some black to the white jersey. Would've been nice. As it stands they have two different looks in a way and it doesn't make sense.

Most other teams are pretty inoffensive in that there were upgrades, or had things small enough not to hate in the bigger picture. Then you have the Patriots of the CFL in the Als. A side panel away from having something a bit less cluttered and bad. Oh well. I'd say overall this was a decent debut for this new collaboration.
