Group D was the home of two major world powers, New York and Berlin. Of course it was in the form of Eisbaren and the Rangers, but the rivalry was real.

Group D drew them playing first, with Red Bull and MsHK meeting in the evening. The Blueshirts jumped out to a two goal lead, with veteran Henrik Lundqvist in the net, who was in his last year, shutting the door. Berlin managed to get two back, but New York had already plunged the dagger into the Eisbaren heart with two late second period goals. MsHK blanked Salzburg 3-0 with a goal per period.

Berlin was matched up against MsHK, getting a chance for redemption. Yan Jorls, a rookie for the favourite, netted three and assisted two to put Berlin up 5-1 in the first period. MsHK mustered an effort for another but the game ended as a 7-2 rout. New York clinched their playoff berth with a 3-0 victory over Salzburg.

The Rangers secured their top spot with a dominant 4-1 win over MsHK. The Rangers became one of the few teams to go 3-0-0. Salzburg had a chance to nab a Wild Card spot but Yan Jorls notched his fifth goal of the tournament at 10:33 of overtime to end Red Bulls season and clinch their second place spot.

Group E was considered a very dangerous group and was proved time and time again. Cologne, Sparta Praha, and powerful Russian Dynamo Mosocw, along with the lowly Edinburgh Capitals.

Sparta pulled off the first of five upsets with a monstrous 3-2 over the Russians. Edinburgh completed a momentous upset when Kennedy James scored at 11:39 of overtime to propel the Brits to victory. Cologne, in hot water, pulled together for a hot game against Moscow. Heinz scored to give the Sharks the lead but Moldtov potted two to almost fully eliminate the Germans. Sparta fell victim to another furious Capitals offence when Kennedy Jones captured his second overtime winner to keep the Caps in first place.

Cologne's dismal tournament came to a close when their Spartan opponents put four past to blank the Sharks and send them home with only two goals scored. Dynamo Moscow retained first place and sent Edinburgh to second with a dominant 5-0 lead that led to a 6-2 win.
