Dear CCSLC,

You are cordially invited to the (insert the number you'd like to use here) annual St. Louis Blues Farewell Party. This year the gala will be held on Monday April 25th at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. The theme of this year's event is "Why do we even bother?" To honor the theme of this year's party, we are asking that guests dress in black and red. Drinks and hors d'oeuvres start at 6:30.

We look forward to seeing you.

Sincerely,

Stanley Cup Playoff Hockey

Kings.

Hitchcock just can't coach in the playoffs, 1999 excluded.

1. San Jose winning one playoff series in no way exorcises the choker tag.  They need to hang a banner besides "Regular Season Champions" to do that.

2. The Kings have two cups.  Throwing the choker tag on them makes no sense whatsoever.  Remember, the Blues were born into the playoff choker role since they made the Final their first three years of existence and got curbstomped all three times.

I agree with both of LMU's points, though wasn't the curbstomping inevitable because the league kept all the best players in the East or something?

Anyways, it's disappointing to see the Blues allow this one to slip away again, though I guess they're following Andy's advice and planning on taking this one in seven, a la 2011. In the bracket challenge, I predicted otherwise, but I'm reasonably confident Dallas can beat Minnesota tomorrow and finally do what St. Louis couldn't.

Or, in a perfect world, San Jose avenges 2010 and does it on the way to their own Cup, but there's no way Ra allows that to happen.

San Jose just beat a two-time Cup winner (in recent memory) in 5 games which no one thought would happen against the same team that came back from 3-0 to win the series and the Cup. I think we can loosen the term.

LA is on its path to choker status, I'd say.

Division 2 seed with one of its top 2 defensemen going down halfway through game 1 loses to division 3 seed with the best road record in the league and only 4 points back in the standings.  That's not exactly a choke job, especially when said team was only the 5th best point-wise in the conference and 8th best in the league.

Seriously, if the 2nd round consists of MIN/CHI, PHI/PIT and TB/NYI, then I'm basically jumping on the ANA/SJ/NSH bandwagon.

With the Sharks graduating from their "choker" status, who do we nominate for the title? LA or St. Louis?

STL still has one final chance to make things right. However, I fully agree with what everyone on BASS has said. I won't believe the Blues can win a crucial series until they win that crucial series. I'm not falling for it, either.

Martinez isn't one of their top 2 defenceman, but I see your point

That there is the issue.  If Martinez isn't the other top defender alongside Doughty then who is?  Muzzin?  Old Man Scuderi?  Schenn?  McNabb/Bain?  Greene was out all year.  Do any of those other guys scream top line?  Hell, I hate to say it, but they were really missing the wife beater.  It also didn't help matters that when the Kings started to flounder at the end of the regular season it was right when Gaborik and later Martinez got hurt.  They tried to reinsert Gabby in Game 2 but it was a desperation move since the lines didn't have any time to mesh.

The bottom line in the Sharks series was that the Kings didn't have the defense, the penalty kill wet the bed, and the Sharks had two years of pent up frustration that they finally had the chance to rid.  It wasn't a choke job at all.

You obviously don't know much about the Kings do you? This is not that team. Gone are Mike Richards, Justin Williams, Jarrett Stoll, and Willie Mitchell all players who played a huge presence in the locker room. Gone is Slava Voynov quite possibly a #1 defenseman on a majority of the teams through out the league. You have a defense now who is a younger less experienced defense. McNabb has been up and down all year, but the thing is, Jake Muzzin was that way in 2012-2013 and said the playoffs helped him elevate his play to a new level. The Kings are hoping that happens with McNabb. You have players like Nick Dowd, Andy Andreoff, and Nick Shore trying to fill the roles of Stoll and Richards. They were missing a #3 centerman which is why they went out and took a shot with Lecavalier. And for as little offense as Jordan Nolan presents, he still has won two Cups and was a vital part of both teams in a grinding effort. Every year is a different story. The Kings right now are kind of in rebuild mode. It might take another couple years for them to be legit Cup contenders. The core is still there, it's the support pieces that need to learn how to play playoff hockey. Then again, this is not the same San Jose team either. Truthfully, they have a hell of a goaltender who's just big and calm in the net and was a key member of the Kings 2014 Cup team. Without Scrivens and Jones in net, the Kings don't make the playoffs. And let's give credit to the Sharks, who just seem to be a complete package right now.

Ummm, wait. Hold on just a second. I'm a Sharks fan (And I use the term FAN at this point as they're the closest hockey team to my front door), and when exactly did they GRADUATE from their choker status? They just passed the first semester, and STILL nearly bombed the final exam. Let's talk about the "graduation" of this choker status when they're being weighed down and slowed up by a Stanley Cup Finals patch.

When I said "Ill bet a Tub one of the teams down 3-1 will come back to win their series" I said that mostly because I wanted to say "Tub", but I was specifically talking about the Blackhawks.

Wow, Caps really getting worked over by the refs early in the second. The Flyers can hit their own player in the face with a stick to get a double minor against Washington!
