Baylor and Pepper Hamilton, the independent law firm the university hired to investigate the sexual assault scandal that engulfed the school’s football program, fumbled, according to university insiders and secret recordings of meetings with athletic staffers obtained by KWTX, which suggest that the firm’s investigators came to Waco with an agenda to purge members of the football program and had a racial undertone in their line of questioning.

On May 26, saying they “were horrified by the extent of these acts of sexual violence on our campus,” Baylor regents reassigned Chancellor and President Ken Starr, fired head football coach Art Briles and put Athletic Director Ian McCaw on probation in the wake of the scathing Pepper Hamilton report of its findings in the investigation of the sexual assault scandal that engulfed the school’s football program.

In a months-long investigation, KWTX has spoken with nine people interviewed by Pepper Hamilton about athletics and the football program, as well as numerous additional sources with direct knowledge of the investigation.

Christ, it's bad enough what Penn State is doing now, lets not let Baylor try to pull the same crap.

This also happened on Wednesday.

Tom Hill, a former Baylor University athletics staffer who publicly questioned his firing amid the school’s sexual assault scandal, has filed to dismiss a request in Dallas County court for the reasons he was fired and for all documents and information related to an external investigation of the university.

Hill’s Dallas lawyer, Rogge Dunn, declined comment on Hill’s reversal.

Court records show Dunn asked to cancel a hearing on his petition for information scheduled for Friday, and a hearing on the dismissal of his request is scheduled for next month.

Hill, a 28-year veteran of Baylor’s athletic department, has claimed he had no involvement with any Baylor football player accused of sexual assault.

Time to DVR "CBS This Morning".

Baylor University’s former Title IX coordinator agreed to a settlement offer during a daylong mediation of a retaliation complaint she filed with the school’s Human Resources Department, but then quit after refusing an additional amount of money to sign a confidentiality agreement, according to a source with direct knowledge of the negotiations.

In the complaint against the university, Patty Crawford alleged she was subjected to retaliatory actions by Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Reagan Ramsower, the source said.

The complaint alleged Ramsowner took away her authority to handle Title IX complaints and accused her of “doing her job too well,” the source said.

The mediation session stretched late into the night Monday, another source with direct knowledge of the meeting said Tuesday.

The school offered her a $1.5 million settlement, the source said, but Crawford balked at signing the confidentiality agreement for an additional $50,000, the source said.

Crawford’s attorney countered the school’s offer with a request for a total of $2 million, which school officials rejected, the source said.

After their refusal, Crawford told Baylor she planned to speak publicly about her frustration with the administration and the board of regents about the handling of the sexual assault investigation.

The lawyer, Rogge Dunn, who also represents fired athletic department staffer Tom Hill, declined to comment Tuesday.

Crawford did not respond to calls and texts Tuesday, but KWTX learned she flew to New York Tuesday morning.

CBS later confirmed that she'll appear along with Dunn Wednesday morning on "CBS This Morning" "to discuss her resignation and the scandal that has rocked the university."

While I'm not surprised by some of her allegations it's disheartening to see that the administration, board and others refuse to take this stuff seriously.

You look at what Baylor was able to do under his tenure, it perfectly fits  with where we see our sports programs going. This is an exciting time for us.

Damn, I feel ill.

junior sure does love his sports.  To him, sports greatness is more important than female student welfare and security.

I would not be shocked if Art Briles resurfaces there.  His son and son in law could be the HC there as they likely will be out of a job after Saturday when they play near Lynchburg at somewhat nearby Morgantown, WV.

Turner Gill is 35-25 at Liberty and only 12-10 in the last two seasons.

Problem may come down to the school only received (by design) an oral report from Pepper Hamilton so that's the only thing the NCAA can use outside of the Discovery process with every civil case filed.

Plus, they're not going to act very quickly since there are so many outstanding NOAs, Notice of Allegations. Hell, the UNC academic case is still ongoing and it started in 2012.

EDIT: Plus recall this is the university which survived the scandal of a player murdering his teammate with the Head Coach paying hush monies to cover up as well as personally paying tuition for two of seven recruits plus academic fraud in coursework being done by non-students.

I don't know how the NCAA doesn't move this towards the front of the line.  Academic fraud can wait a minute.  When there's rape involved, you want to get that dealt with as quick as you can.

One of the reasons why I've always been a little hesitant to give Penn State the death penalty was that the issue wasn't ever on the players....it was on the coaching staff and the administration that thought being out in the middle of nowhere would keep the lid closed on any child molestation talk.  Penalize the school, especially monetarily (their financial hit is somewhere around a quarter of a million, now) and get rid of any of the personnel involved.

With Baylor, though?  If even half of this is true, I don't know how you can keep this football program afloat.  The coaches (allegedly) encouraged it, the players participated, and the administration is doing their damndest to obstruct, hiding behind their private school status.

Recall in 2013, Oklahoma State had the SI exposé about hostesses told to have sex with players (possible assaults there), drug use, academic violations, et al, yet their punishment was little.

Nothing happened at FCS Montana after the Justice Dept. came to campus and the HC was fired and the AD was too but for vacating five wins, a loss of four scholarships, three years probation and donating 3 grand to local charities.

While I get all that, 2013 is such a different world from today, where folks aren't so accepting of domestic altercations.

But  even in 2017, people and the NCAA know one thing...

Their "Limitations".

After Penn State, the NCAA knows its limitations.
