Hey - spare a thought for those of us stuck at work whilst you’re enjoying the match!

If anyone needs me I’ll be going into an important internal meeting in about twenty minutes that’s likely to last for a couple of hours, we'll be in the boardroom with the massive plasma telly.

Taping England vs Wales. I'll be avoiding internet, Facebook  and Sirius FC channel all day. This will be a long day.

I was completely wrong about Iceland and Austria... the latter did not look great at all. Although, I wonder how much the Austria-Hungary game would have changed if Alaba's long-range effort had gone in.

Such a great tournament so far, especially the early game today.

Ukraine eliminated via the 0-0 draw between Germany and Poland earlier today.

Disappointing tournament for them, I thought for sure Konoplyanka and Yarmolenko would've had better tournaments. Oh well, just goes to show that a team is more about the team rather than individual parts

This tournament has definitely highlighted that for sure.

It feels like every Euro game is the same. 1:0, 1:1, 2:0 or 2:1 is all we get. And about 90 % of the games end with a last minute goal.

That Belgium v Ireland match was hard to watch. On the other hand, I'm loving this Iceland team. They drew with the overrated Ronaldo and overrated Portugal. I am confused though. In the 90s we were forced to hate Iceland because of its dominant youth hockey team that lost the championship to the USA in a shootout, now we are to love the soccer team as the underdogs! What gives??

Ronaldo hits the post on a penalty in the 80' against Austria.

Beautiful.

You know how you can tell when a guy is going to miss a PK? Ronaldo had panic all over his face before he took the shot.

This has been kind of a fun tournament so far. Lots of close games decided late and 23 of the 24 teams still have a chance to advance to the next round (Ukraine is the only team to be eliminated at this point)

Funny you should say that...

Ukraine - They have two of my favorite players in the world right now in Yevhen Konoplyanka and Andriy Yarmolenko. They will be enough to take them through.

That is weird, but I think Ukraine just hasn't played to it's fullest potential. Without the two garbage time goals in the first two games, the goal difference would look much better.

Anyway, since it's time for the final rotation, it's time to look into the chance for the Round of 16 for Group A.

France: Already assured a spot in the Round of 16, the French can take the group with a win or a draw against the Swiss. Winning the group means that the French will play in Lyon against one of the top 4 3rd place teams.

Switzerland: The Swiss would like to get the win and overtake the French in the group, but at least a draw gets them into the Round of 16, but to assure their place they would need an Albania win over Romania.

Romania: A win could be huge for Romania as they could be able to clinch one the top 4 spots for 3rd place teams. To finish in 2nd, they would need to overcome the 2 goal deficit.. a 2-0 win while the French and Swiss play to a scoreless draw can easily assure that.

Albania: Despite the 0-2 record, the little minnows have a chance to snatch a top 4 3rd place slot with a win over Romania. How so? Well, three points would put them on even ground with Northern Ireland and Slovakia, but those teams still have games to play... Same for everyone else, so there is the chance of failure here.

How 'bout them little minnows, eh? Albania's 1-0 victory over Romania sends them into third place in Group A and they have a decent chance of being in the top 4. The only hard part is that they'll have to wait until Wednesday to see if it was worth it.

On to Group B...

England: A draw against Slovakia would be enough for England, who has a top three finish already assured. But, a win would give them the group, which means a date with one of the Top 4 3rd place teams in the Round of 16.

Wales: The Welsh needs a win and a England loss to take the group, but a draw against Russia might be enough for them to get into the next round provided England beats Slovakia.

Slovakia: They can steal this group with a win and a Russia win over Wales. A draw with England could give them 3rd place provided that Wales beats Russia

Russia: Despite having just one point, they're not dead in the water. A win over Wales coupled with a Slovakia victory over England would give them enough points to finish in either 2nd or 3rd place. Anything else means the Russians are dead-ski.

More importantly, a win guarantees that we will play our next game at 5pm on Saturday instead of 8pm on Monday night. Which has it's obvious benefits beer.png.

Wales  will finish above Slovakia if they match their result- Update WE WIN THE GROUP!!!!

Thanks for the update, WelshSteeler. With that win, Wales takes the group, England is 2nd, Slovakia is third and Russia is heading back home to probably get an earful from Putin.

Tomorrow begins the double days as Group C and Group D finish play. Group C is pretty clear cut...

Germany: A simple draw is enough for the Germans to move on, but to be really safe a win will help... remember, a win means they take the group and earn a Round of 16 date with of the best four 3rd place teams.

Poland: The same scenario stand for Poland... a draw is enough to move on, but a win would be really sweet. A loss doesn't hurt their chances, but it could be an issue should Northern Ireland pulls off the biggest upset at this tournament.

Northern Ireland: The win over Ukraine was huge as either a win (not likely) or a draw would be great as they have a great shot to be one of the top 4 3rd place teams to advance. If they get a 0-0 draw against Germany, Northern Ireland leaps past Slovakia in the race for the four 'wild cards' thanks to better goal difference. A loss won't hurt because of how far back Ukraine is in goal difference.

In Group D...

Spain: They already have a spot in the next round, it just depends on what happens in their game with Croatia. A win means they get the final top spot and a match with a 'wild card'. A draw would also give them that spot.. a loss means they get leapfrogged by Croatia.

Croatia: A win for them gives them the group. A draw assures them 2nd place while a loss could mean the Czechs might squeak into the 2nd place spot provided they can overcome the goal difference (+1 for Croatia to -1 for the Czech Republic).

Czech Republic: A win over Turkey would be helpful in the race for the 'wild cards'. Anything else would be either harmful or downright dangerous.

Turkey: Similar to Albania in Group A, the Turks still have a shot for 3rd place with a win. Anything else means they are done like Thanksgiving dinner.
