I still think Las Vegas Rats is the most underrated name idea out there. Put a nice rat pack theme to it, but rats are fierce and strike fear, is very unique, and is short and to the point.

But rats spread diseases, and were the cause for the black plague that killed half of europe.

I don't see how that is appropriate name for a sports team !..........unless Adam Silver was the owner ;):D

I would go with an Ancient Egyptian identity but that's jut me.

The Las Vegas Memphis. Then when that fails, try Atlanta for a 3rd time, making them the Atlanta Phoenix. After that fails, finally give Quebec their Nordiques back.

What, too soon for plague references? Still too fresh in everyone's minds? Brings up bad memories? Too soon? lol

I'll respect any opinion that you can defend.

If freaking Buffalo can support the NFL and NHL then Las Vegas sure as heck can.

Las Vegas is completely different than Buffalo. For one there are so many more attractions as well at Las Vegas any team already has to compete with that. It also has to deal with the fact that most of the population in Las Vegas at any one time are tourists and aren't invested in a local team like they would be in buffalo. The locals aren't going to be the ones they are trying to pull into games, they are gonna be trying to pull in tourists with the disposable income available, and these tourist would probably rather visit a football game rather than a hockey game unless their home town team was there.

I'm not sure what a logo would be for Desert Knights: An armored knight stabbing a cactus?

A cactus with a lance and a plumed hemet?

That started as a joke, but now I don't hate the idea...still hate the name.

Haha.... ok.

Does NYC not have other draws for both locals and tourists?  That whole Vegas argument is so weak.

NYC has the population, the corporations, and the cash to support everything though.

Vegas could be another Florida in the NHL.

You know this how???

Based on past experiences?  Oh wait...

Depends on if the team will heavily rely on away team fans and tourists.  If Vegas can build a solid home fan base and the expansion team is decent, it'll likely be on solid ground for at least a few years.  But if they can't win, people in Vegas will spend money somewhere else.

You have no grounds to say this though...  you have no precedent.

this is literally the exact OPPOSITE of what they're trying to do in Vegas.  Yes, they'll be comping people in town for tourism reasons to the game but the entire season ticket base will be majority composed of local businesses and residents.  The locals are EXACTLY the ones they're trying to build the fanbase off of.

this is the same lame argument the Anti-Vegas Expansion crowd was throwing out last year and it's been refuted ad nauseum.

I'm not sure I need a precedent.  It's simple economics and utility.

The Sabres are only viable because of their ability to draw from Canada.

Vegas is a bit far away to try that.
