I always get excited when expansion or relocation occurs and we're treated to new logos, team names, and tons of other info.

However...yikes, this "searching for a name" train wreck needs to end already.

The perfect name has been there all along.  Las Vegas Aces!  Shame things have become so politically correct that it can't happen...

Knights is looking like the best viable option.

You really don't know what politically correct means and should stop using the phrase.

Maybe I'm missing something but isn't the name not being considered solely because the team doesn't want to associate with gambling and the negative stigma around it?  Even though gambling and Casinos are the first thing one associates with the city.  Not being able to name a sports team after what its host city is known for, because you don't want to offend a certain group of people (in this case people who disapprove of gambling), is the definition of political correctness.

It's not about offense or hurt feelings the way, for instance, "Redskins" is, so much as not inviting any passing thoughts of gambling's influence on sports. Of course, the idea that calling them the Aces or the Blackjacks or the IceCraps inherently makes them susceptible to compromised integrity is ridiculous, but I understand it in some loose sense. It has nothing to do with political correctness or identity politics, though.

Yeah, not really a PC issue, it's more about just wanting to distance themselves from all appearance of gambling.

I think Aces is the best bet, but accept that it isn't happening. Unfortunately, the AHL beat them to the punch on two good, albeit lengthy, options, this off-season: Thunderbirds and Roadrunners.

Some version of Wranglers/Outlaws has been done so many times in Vegas, I'm not surprised they're shying away.

A four word team name just strikes me as a bad call. Whether you consider a compound word to be as bad is a toss up, but I'd take it.

Overall, I just really worry that they're going to screw the pooch on what could and should have been one of the most unique and interesting identities in major pro sports. Some of it's on the League, but most of it belongs at Foley's feet. Every Vegas-area hockey fan I know is dreading the name reveal, something that never should have been allowed to happen.

Thunder Bay Lynx - International Hockey Association (2 seasons, 2017-18, 2019-20, 2018 Xtreme Cup Champions)Houston Armadillos - Major League Hockey (2 seasons, 2016-18) | Minnesota Muskies - North American Basketball Association (1 season, 2017-2018) | Louisville Thoroughbreds - United League of Baseball (1 season, 2017, 2017 United Cup Champions) | Las Vegas Thunderbirds - International Basketball League (1 season, 2016-17, 2017 Champions)

IceCraps for the win.
