Why don't they pick a new name instead of re-using one from the OHL?

Doesn't matter, theres a Rangers in the OHL, an Islanders in the QMJHL, a Hurricanes in the WHL, and the Winterhawks may as well be an affiliate of the Blackhawks.

Nah, it's really not.  Leave Black Knights for West Point.  Just because the owner is proud of his alma mater, I don't think it gives him license to just reuse the team name.  It's very amateur.

Just like when the Cleveland/LosAngeles/St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams were named after the Fordham Rams.

Yeah I'm not sure it's just like that.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

The Las Vegas Outlaws (the XFL team, not the farcical Arena Football team owned by the goofball Vince Neil) had a great nickname and also a beautiful colour scheme.

The combination of red with gold and black was very attractive.

And their "LV" logo was pretty good...

...though it was not as nice as the one that they had intended to go with:

Red/Gold/Black is a great color scheme for Las Vegas, and I wouldn't mind it...if nearly 1/3 of the league didn't already wear Black and Red. This is probably a wish in vain, but I'd really like to see this Las Vegas team--be they the Black Knights, Knights, Outlaws, Aces, Scorpions, Dragons, or whatever--to work in purple somewhere, as it's noticeably missing from the league (and I don't think the Kings need to go back to it, either).

Or if they insist on wearing so much black, maybe they can at least do something like the Miami Marlins and use bright colors to give a neon light effect.

Aces can also have a double meaning, both with the card game aspect as well as meaning aviation, which is a big part of the area in Southern Nevada there.

Aces would be a terrible name because it's nauseatingly low hanging as it is, AND there's already a PCL team up in Reno (Which is an area that will produce exactly ZERO fans of Vegas sports teams) that uses the name Aces already. You might as well just name them the Las Vegas Sharks at that point.

“We’re going to defer the team name for the time being. We’re going to go through the league. We have several alternatives and several different ideas. I love Black Knights, I’m an Army guy but maybe that’s not the right name for this team at this time and we’re going to have a number of presentations and proposals. We’re going through our local preparation process. We would hope by the time the next season starts that we would have our team name, team logo and be ready to start selling some jerseys. We’ll work through the league. We know where we are and what we’ll be doing.” - Bill Foley

If the owner of the franchise is to be believed, it would seem that Las Vegas Black Knights is not a lock to become the identity of the NHL's latest expansion team.

Las Vegas Knights
Las Vegas Vipers
Las Vegas Thunderbirds
Las Vegas Wranglers

Las Vegas Black Knights is too wordy anyway.

Dump the color and it would work.

I wish people would stop associating the expansion team with anything and everything gambling related. Just because it's based in Vegas doesn't mean the team has to be named after something gaming/gambling related. I work in a casino, I could come up with 100 different names but it literally makes my head hurt with these ridiculous unimaginative names. "Let's name them the Las Vegas - Gamblers, Dealers, Strippers, Rats (Rat pack reference? WTF Why? thats ridiculous).... etc" needs to stop.

Atleast be creative and call them Las Vegas Slot Lizards or Las Vegas Slot Rats (People who play slots all day) or Las Vegas Buffalo Hunters (People that look at slot machines for abandoned credits and take pennies at a time, looking for that mega pay out that someone left $100+ and left for a minute to get a soda).

I'm completely fine with Las Vegas Knights if they choose to go that route but hopefully they drop the "Black" from the logo.

I personally always liked "Sin City Vultures" as a play on the cities nickname and Vultures from well, being ferocious and in the desert that will likely tear apart your dead body.

Some columnist on ESPN did a tongue-in-cheek column with name suggestions, and one he came up with was the Flying Elvi. I immediately thought they could get an AHL affiliate in Salt Lake City and call it the Flying Elvi, Utah Chapter. (If you're confused go look up "Honeymoon in Vegas")

In all seriousness, I like Las Vegas Knights (without the Black). It's a classy name, and it would be too hackneyed to use a gambing-themed nickname. I also think Scorpions or Bandits would be decent.
