I've previously suggested Las Vegas Battlers, Las Vegas Paladins, Las Vegas Sidewinders, Las Vegas Vipers, Las Vegas Wranglers, and Las Vegas Thunderbirds.

That said, what about the Las Vegas Lancers

Lancers were cavalrymen who fought with a lance. During the Middle Ages, warfare involving lances was conducted by armoured combatants and the knightly sport of jousting arose as a means of developing and refining lance warfare skills. As a result, the name would lend itself to a logo package containing depictions of knights, which we know is important to Foley. It's also nicely alliterative.

A possible negative is that the USHL's Omaha Lancers may be no more accommodating than the OHL's London Knights when it comes to sharing an identity with an NHL franchise.

Lancers is great, Crusaders, Cavalry, even Horsemen if he wants a Knight like mascot.

Jesus I hate this Foley guy...

This is the NHL, not the damn military.   Can we take away his team now?!

Agreed.  Why does every new identity have to have a damn military connection anyways.  The only team to look remotely good from this association is the Winnipeg Jets.  With the recent Florida rebrand, the military inspired flourishes produced the most lazy and slapdash elements...  Like the tired shield and the goofy "Captain Florida" badges.  This is a trend that cannot die fast enough.

It does matter because there is already a team in the same STATE that has the name.   Proximity is a thing.

"proximity"

Las Vegas is closer to Phoenix and Los Angeles than it is to Reno.

Its a factor because it's stupid to name a team down south the same name as one of the teams in their in-state rival city when there are so few teams in the state. It's completely lazy and uninspired. Name them the Silver Desert Flamingos for all I care. Just don't do something dumb like duplicating names in such a ridiculously small (for population) state.

See above.

Reno might as well as be on another planet when it comes to the calculus of Las Vegas major league teams.

So apparently all those names Foley registered was just to throw people off.  The preferred name and colours have been given the thumbs up by the league while they still need to finetune the logo.  Foley is hoping to release the name in mid-October and start selling merchandise in December.  All you people who wanted Sand Knights are out of luck.  Definately seems like there will be a military theme.   http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/las-vegas-owner-registered-fake-names-misdirection-ploy/

Yeah... that would go over well.

So Foley wants a two word, military themed name.

I like the names Las Vegas Lancers and Vegas Vipers among others (Bighorns, Scorpions, Flamingoes), but since these don't fit his 'criteria', my guesses are:

(Las) Vegas Stealth Bombers

(Las) Vegas Atom(ic) Bombs

(Las) Vegas Silver Knights

(Las) Vegas Silver Stallions

(Las) Vegas Desert Hawks (as in the helicopter)

I had a suspicion that Foley and the NHL would pull off something like this, just to see the reaction. However, I would honestly love for them to throw everyone (including the Raiders) off and go with something like Las Vegas Silver Raiders. (Somewhat of a) Military connection, two-word name, silver for Silver State, and the Raiders have to look for another city, if not a new stadium in Oakland. Everyone wins for the 5 years that this team is in LV and not Seattle/Quebec.
