OnWis97
Lots of happy Big Ten fans after Louisville's loss. They were getting in over Wisconsin or PSU for sure. Probably happy in Washington, too. I had a sense that a lot of fans/media wanted Louisville in because of Jackson; not sure how that would have impacted the committee. But there are a few two-loss teams that have to be looked at as better than Louisville now. He torched FSU earlier in the season. Other than that game has he really played in any other "big" games? Plus, his stats are still video game-like. We'll see if any of the other potential candidates (Hurts, Barrett, Peppers, Watson, Browning, Mayfield, Pumphrey, Foreman, etc.) can really seperate themselves from the rest of the field. There's a lot of really good guys but nobody has really separated themselves from the rest of the pack.

Not sure if they were getting in over the Badgers due to their strength of schedule as a presumable conference champion, but most definitely over PSU. It starts to get interesting now. If Clemson loses either to Wake or in the ACC Championship, then the ACC could very well be left out of the playoff, opening the door for a second B1G team or the Big XII champion. Great result over Florida State and Clemson but he struggled against Wake for three quarters and the week before as well. Numbers are big but if they're all earned in the front half of the season than he shouldn't get it. He did show how to beat Clemson though. Pumphrey put up 281yds and 3TDs against Cal but no other player put up those numbers against them (including the formentioned Dont'a Foreman) So using and degrading a players schedule against him shouldn't have a place here. A player doesn't control who he plays and what type of defense he plays against. They go out and do their job and he's done that consistently the whole season at a top level on usually within 3 Quarters so he's not just padding his stats. If you want to make the Heisman, a strict Power5 Award then do that but for now it's an NCAA football award and SDSU plays in the NCAA so he should 100% be in the running for the Heisman. I'm sick and tired of hearing how a players schedule should remove him from the conversation when he doesn't control who he plays. He just controls how he performs in the game and when called upon and Pumphrey has done that at a Heisman level consistently all season.
rams80
And yet Lamar Jackson has even gaudier stats against a P5 schedule. And yes, schedule quality is a consideration when Wyoming is going to be the first FBS school San Diego State plays that even has a winning record. See Red
Yeah, I don't think Pumphrey can win it. Maybe there's not as strong of candidates as I thought when I said Lamar lost it. He's clearly been the best player all season and even last night, he had flashes despite the offensive line being absolute trash. But I don't know, that just seemed like the kind of game that would cost somebody. Especially given that it was his fumble that killed Louisville's momentum and any shot of coming back late in the third.
