White Sox fans probably don't give a sh**

I'm way too hype for the Guaranteed Rate Field re-christening ceremony tomorrow, followed by the most fitting and grandiose of events to "open" the stadium next week. That's right, it's sizzlin' hot midweek college football action between Northern Illinois and Toledo. COME GET SOME!

Staying on topic, as a football neutral who hasn't even watched a game in 2.5 seasons but absorbs all the Bears stuff that just floats through the air in this city, I am convinced, and have been for weeks, that John Fox gives a subzero number of craps, and his true aim is to get fired and collect the two years of free money left on his contract. Unfortunately for him, Cutler and Alshon are gonna pull this garbage barge to 6-10 and the 12th pick in the draft, and the front office will be convinced things are headed in the right direction. (Also because they're cheap and wouldn't want to pay John Fox to not work.)

The McCaskeys' cheapness is weird because it is and it isn't. They will drop big sums of money here and there for appearances' sake (Cutler, John Fox, random free agents), but when it comes to talent development, the Bears' ineptitude over the last 20 drafts is surpassed only by that of the Raiders, which for most of that time was just an old man holding a stopwatch, so it's clear they're cutting as many corners as they can. It's not that they don't want to win, they just don't know how to do it, and can't seem to figure out that the low elasticity of demand plus the guaranteed central revenue means they can stop treating the Bears like a family business with no margin for error. It'll be interesting to see what happens when the world's largest collection of failsons has to sell the team. Even odds the NFL creates the "Halas Exemption" to keep the Bears in that stupid family.

And that's another problem the NFL has: ownership! We make fun of NHL owners for being grifters, misers, and eventual felons, but a good half this league is run by bumbling dopes who inherited what have become billion-dollar businesses and have no idea how to do anything outside football or even inside football. It's like watching sixteen falls of the Habsburgs. Art Modell once said NFL owners were Republicans who vote socialist, but if they really want to be socialists, they'll surrender their assets to the state when they die so that Paul Brown's grandchildren can't be even bigger disappointments than his son was.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

This is a league where a flag was thrown this year because a player pretended to shoot a bow-and-arrow.  That's not the whole problem, obviously, but that's where officiating is at.

I think we all know the real problem... Jeff Fisher!!  Ye of officiating overlording & suffocating the Rams thusly making them impossible to watch.:mojoto:

Srsly though, I'm kinda glad the whole run first QB era is rather quieted down.  Franchises...errr fans... don't need QBs with 3yrs life expectancy to rely on for wins & excitement.

I'll add that January would seem to offer hope with probably only the likes of the Patriots, Raiders, Chiefs, Cowboys, Falcons, & Seahawks remaining.  We'll finally get our good games.

Get used to the run-first style QB or running QBs in general since pocket passers are kind of going extinct in college.

Norv turner has just resigned as Vikings oc perhaps this is for the best his play calling is kind of stupid

The inability of the offensive line to both pass protect and run block is what seemed to be stupid.

If the GM isn't making at move at the trade deadline to make sure Bradford is standing, you might as well quit at 5-2 before it collapses.

That too but his play calling really wasn't helping things he would just call one pass play then run  the ball repeatedly even though it didn't work and he keeps cordarrelle patterson on the sidelines even though he is reliable as a big play guy even is his hands are suspect the o line needs to get rebuilt as Sam Bradford can't go seconds without having a guy in his face and is it me or the o line got worse once Jake Long was signed

Not to mention, given Bradford's balsa-wood construction, you're really playing with fire if you let him get hit that often.

Huh? Suspect hands keep you on the sideline.

Patterson was just in the concussion protocol until Monday too.

Let's also not forget that Bradford has the ability to audible out of the play call, but he's smart enough to know that the line cannot protect him.

Fact is neither you nor I see what they see during the practice week and what they see from Patterson isn't good enough to consistently be nothing more than the #3 WR.

Suspect hands were the same afflictions that the likes of billy white shoes johnson and Devin Hester had and they saw the field more than Patterson even after passing the concussion protocol he never sees the field much even when the team could use someone like him

When you are the 13th overall pick and your team does not pick up the 5th year option, your previous years indicate one's value.  He couldn't even be traded for OL help.

I guess this is the best place to put it to not bump the sports themes thread a ton, but NBC released their TNF theme today. Sounds pretty cool in a retro kind of way

BOO! BOO! BOO! The only theme that should be used for Thursday Night Football is this:

After tonight, that's going to be 17 losses in the Bucs' last 20 home games, and halfway to a second winless season in three years. I can't be bothered to look this up, but that has to be the worst mark in the NFL in that time span.

Quick research says the Titans win last week put them one win better than the Bucs for fewest home wins since 2014.
