MLB Changes 2017

Actually, I think if one team can pull off the "ski resort" look for a branding set, it's definitely the Rockies. That mountain in diamond logo is actually a really great idea, and I think I'd be totally fine with that. The Rockies current set is ok, but pretty uninspired and forgettable.

I may may be a bit of a sucker for that ski resort style branding, though having grown up in a ski resort town.

I have a real soft spot for the Rockies' current look (loved the unis in '93, love the home pinstripes now). The hat, for its faults, is one of my favorites. I wouldn't mind that diamond logo that was used in those photos, but the Futura font (or what looks like Futura) is way too bland.  For some reason they can't get away from Microsoft Word fonts.

Stance has made the Cardinals socks look way worse. Looks super stretched out.

I thought the same exact thing. The stripes' dimensions are way off. I really hate the stance socks.

I may have just missed seeing out posted,  but the yankees also had matte helmets today.

I haven't seen it yet.  But if they persist in using that unattractive print version of the logo, the matte finish is not going to help.

The Yankees' helmets have looked bad for quite some time.  You have to go back several decades to find helmets that had an appropriate NY logo, one which resembles the version on the uniform.

Yankees hat, helmet, uniform and print logos all being different is beautiful asymmetry.

Agree with you right up until the print one.  That's just an ugly, crooked logo.  It shows how minor changes can throw the whole balance off and ruin an otherwise beautiful design.

They had matte helmets on the road last year too.

I know nothing about the Rockies new logo but if the team used it on their official social media then how can it not be an official new logo for them? That's not a mistake that a team would make by accident. For that logo to even be on option available to them to use it's gotta be official. Even then, what an odd way to reveal that logo. That doesn't even count as a leak, the team clearly just threw it out there with no fanfare whatsoever and in posts that included both of their other logos. So strange.

The helmet logo is the print logo.  Its most outstanding (not in a good way) feature is the Y whose bottom doesn't extend to below the bottoms of the legs of the N.  That logo serves no purpose, and looks bad in all applications.

The jersey logo looks best on the helmet, as shown above with the Jackson and Munson pictures.

There was also another helmet logo, characterised by an N whose diagonal stroke had a little curve in it.  The best exemplar of this is the coolest-looking player of all time, the Mighty Mustachioed Mediterranean Marvel himself,  Mr. Richard Aldo Cerone:

(Proof that Cerone invented "chillin' like a boss".)

Orioles tweeted out new matte helmets as well

These look amazing. I hope they have helmets to go along with the black Friday alternates too. I've noticed the lack of one pre-matte, but we'll see this week (Yankees coming Friday night)

I think we've seen teams use numerous logos on social media that really aren't official logos for the team.  That stupid LA Chargers one comes to mind.

I've never once seen an MLB team use a non official logo on social media. That LA Chargers debacle was an exception and not the same as this situation with the Rockies.

Notable (for me, anyway) TBTC news from CC & The Mothership:

Houston: 1997 throwbacks in August (hell yes!!) and 1977 throwbacks in June.

Oakland: 1997 throwback in August vs. Astros (Oakland on the road...return of green hat with yellow A's?)

Philadelphia: 1983 throwback in July.

New Era will be getting some $$$ from me if they make those caps in low crowns.

The print logo is ALMOST the exact same as the helmet logo.

And disliking one of the Yankees logos seems dumb to me anyway. They are all almost the same, it's just those slight differences between all of that are awesome.
