Wait wait wait... why are we ok with every championship team creating a modified championship jersey? The Giants did it and it was cool once then the Royals did it and it worked because gold is supposed to be one of their colors so it just downright looked good... but who says this has to become "a thing" from now on? The Cubs are supposed to be more traditional in appearance. I hope they're the team that just decides to go back to celebrating with a patch. They don't NEED a new gold-trimmed version of their jerseys to celebrate their championship.

You forgot Boston in the middle, there.

It's just kinda become a tradition since the Giants did it, which itself was a callback to when they won at the dawn of last century and wore "WORLD CHAMPIONS" on the front of their jerseys for a year.  It's generally inoffensive, although I doubt it would be welcomed in the Bronx if it was done there.

I agree... most look good, if not great, and they don't bother me individually. I just don't think this has to become a continuous thing. Teams did just fine with the championship patches. And if it continues eventually some team is gonna get it horribly wrong. I mean just imagine if the DBacks were to win another championship with their current sets! The horror!

In defense of the practice, if is a ONE DAY thing.  The Royals went full year because it had been so long, gold's in their color scheme, and quite frankly out of the last three champions they had the least iconic and sacred uniform.  I don't expect the Cubs to wear gold around their logos on their home uniform the whole year.

Also, the comment on the blue at home for Opening Day was a joke, although considering they won in those uniforms, the more I think of it the more I wouldn't put it 100% out of the realm of possibility.

The Cardinals did it in 2012 as well.

That's true (although one year off).  I'ma put their uniforms in the "more iconic and untouchable than the Royals pile with Boston, San Francisco, and Chicago."

It's here to stay because of the $$$$$$

2012 would've been the year they wore the jerseys though

Oh.  Duh.  I first saw the statement and got confused by the even year.

The Red Sox were the first team to add gold for opening day in 2005 (and again in '08, I think). The Cardinals did it in 2007. Prototype jerseys were made for the White Sox in 2006 with gold replacing the silver outlines, but they were never worn.

Cubs world championship awareness (and commerce) will be high enough without Trumpianly gold-trimmed jerseys, thanks.

Which reminds me that Adrian Gonzalez hates Trump and his wish for Illegals to leave the US. Thank goodness A-Gon plays for the Dodgers so he never will have to worry about meeting Trump in the white house.

Phillies did it for the first game in 09, too. Yankees had caps for their championship in 09, but didn't wear them on the field in 2010.

It's been done in some form every year over the last decade, so I would be really surprised if the Cubs don't do something.

Huh.  I guess that's what a decade and repressed trauma will do to your memory.  Never mind.  XD

Are there photos of these prototypes?

Love them and I hope the Cubs DO have some gold trimmed jerseys when they receive their rings.  Maybe the start of a new tradition in baseball?  I have no problems with it.

It's not exactly new, it's been going on for over a decade

Diamondbacks tweaks coming for 2017.  From the mothership...

All big improvements, IMO. I can probably live with their new identity now. They still have to promise to never wear alts with their road pants again, though.
