NFL Network did a Top 10 episode years back with the top 10 uniforms in league history. They put the Lance Alworth Chargers at 1. Here is how my list breaks down on the topic:

3. Late 90's-2000's 49ers:

-Great way to use the black effectively and tie-in the newer helmet. I use to love these bad boys.

To me, the late 90s 49ers uniforms were an example of a great modernization that captures the spirit of the classic uniforms. They were a bit over-designed--e.g., the helmet logo on the sleeves and the gold outline on the numbers--but these are definitely better than their current look.

I don't have a formal Top Ten list in my head, but these are some of my favorites:

The 1973-74 LA Rams. Although they wore essentially the same unis through 1999, there were tweaks along the way. My favorite version is the first one, with the block numerals. The photo here shows a jersey never worn in the regular season, but was worn in a few preseason games. One rumor I heard was that the white outline made the jersey too similar to the Chargers, so they changed it.

1960s Denver Broncos. Sadly, they eventually gave up on the orange road pants, and I don't like the all-white unis as much. Not colorful enough. I also love the Chargers set in this photo (see below).

Broncos Chargers 02.jpg

Late 60s/early 70s Chargers (with yellow pants). These uniforms also went through some tweaks along the way. In this photo (1972), the blue has darkened but not all the way to royal yet. Points off for not having the lightning bolt on the pants.

Unitas 1973a.jpg

1960s/70s Dallas Cowboys. Especially the blue jerseys.

1960s Oakland Raiders. Loved the silver numerals on the white jerseys.

Raiders 1970a.jpg

Late 60s Minnesota Vikings. I also like the blue and white Rams unis shown here, but they aren't in my top ten.

Vikings 1969a.jpg

1970s/early 80s Philadelphia Eagles.

1971 Washington Redskins. I also like the earlier burgundy spear helmet, but somehow the uniform looks more balanced with a yellow oneRedskins 1971a.jpg.

Late 60s Houston Oilers. The red, silver, and Columbia blue look great together.

Oilers 1969a.jpg

Late 60s/early 70s New Orleans Saints.

Saints 70 Road Edd Hargett, Cardinals.jpg

Honorable mentions: early 2000s Tampa Bay Bucs, Brian Sipe era Cleveland Browns (with orange pants), current NY Giants (very close to 60s version), 70s Seattle Seahawks, 90s Jacksonville Jaguars.

There are a ton of uniforms that I love! But some of the all time classics that have endured the test of time with very few updates and always look great are the Cowboys, Steelers, Raiders, Packers and Chief.

I hate those road red pants. I like the road all whites on the Chiefs better. Call me old school, but I think they Chargers, Jets, Cardinals, Bears, and Colts (1995) pull off the color pants under white jerseys much better.

I forgot the Chargers darkened their jerseys in the late 1960's to early 1970's. I know they went royal blue in 1974. But how come everyone like the athletic gold pants while the helmet was white and jersey was a dark collegiate blue?

Oh those 1970's, 1980's, and 1990's Rams uniforms. 1973-1999. In 1981 they went with navy blue facemask. Those Giants look is the only one I like. The 1980-1999 Giants look is hard to beat.

AFL era Raiders rock hard. I do like the silver numbers with black trim.

Houston Texans can't hold a candle to the Houston Oilers of old.

Top of my head:

  1. Bengals original tiger stripes with the thinner (pre-tiger on sleeve) stripes.
  2. Bucco Bruce Bucs.
  3. Lions pre-black
  4. Colts with blue masks
  5. Vikings 1990s with the sleeve logo
  6. Cardinals pre-Arizona flag (yes, I loved them in their plain red jersey)
  7. Jets with the black trim (Boomer Esiason)
  8. Patriots 1980s
  9. Raiders
  10. Chargers Navy Blue (Junior Seau)

Two that shoulda been top-ten but could not get it right:

  • Kelly and Silver Eagles.  First the jerseys had way to many stripes, then they added black.  But that helmet...
  • Shaun Alexander-era Seahawks.  I love the color of that home jersey and loved the helmet choice.  But the pants never quite worked.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

Obviously 100% subjective here... the new Bucs unis are a such a double travesty because they replaced my fav set of all time.

I've for some reason preferred many teams' whites, possibly for some road underdog trait.  Pretty much all of these would envelope preference for both home solids & road whites.  Dallas' solids are pretty bad@$$ because it's like they're practice jerseys & they don't even care.

great list! I've been saying the Titans should adopt those Silver (or columbia) helmets for year. Wish the Saints also would go back to these too.

i think your preference for whites is actually for good reason....

typically on a "colored" jersey, you see a team's secondary color + white on a background of the team's primary color.. this often exhibits a nice white number and other white accents, while minimalizing the team's actual color scheme (by reducing the team's secondary color to trim alone)... while the white jerseys offer a neutral background that allows the team's full color scheme to be displayed prominently and together, which usually results in a pretty nice look, ESPECIALLY if the two colors look great together

Ppl can say whatever they will about this current Patriots' uni era, their road whites are flawless.  They really look perfect to me.
