Well, sure, it's December 29 & he's still available, this shouldn't shock many. I know his health & prowess are not what they were, yet he helps set the tone & remains a leader for that clubhouse. With EE gone, frees him up to be a full time DH and never field again. I like Jose Bautista on the blue jays, because i love hating him. Orioles jays games arent the same without hating his guts. KittSmith_95
If Joey is full healthy, he'll be better in RF this year than last. Plus, the guy can get on base better than most. He's the new Greek God of Walks.
2001mark
I'm curious to see some mock lineups if they do re-sign him. Do they keep Tulo low or move him up? I guess we can wait for the next thread to discuss. @2001mark

What they really need is a leadoff hitter. GO OILERS-GO BLUE JAYS-GO ESKIMOS-GO COLTS
SCalderwood
Way off topic, but I was thinking about how the execs at WGN America must feel about the Cubs winning the World Series... "Oh, yeah, great guys, NOW you win the World Series. Thanks a lot. Great timing. We could have been showcasing the defending world champions to the entire nation after all of these years, but instead we'll be stuck showing six-hour blocks of 'Walker, Texas Ranger.'" When they start losing again, & they will because every single team does, they'll learn they're not quite the loveable losers perhaps. Then again, many of those fans with all due respect will be passing from Earth anyways. @2001mark

The_Admiral
Quote Diamondbacks President Derrick Hall said in March that there has been zero desire to leave downtown Phoenix or Chase Field, that over the last four years their discussions have been about them absolving Maricopa County of financial responsibility in exchange for control of the building and managing the building. “Not owning it — they would still own it, but for us to control the way the Suns do their arena downtown, and it shows that we want to stay,” he said. SFGiants58
Marty Brennaman trashes Joey Votto on the radio. Quote Time out here now. I’m not going to get into all that crap. I’m going to tell you this: If I were an owner of a baseball team I would say to him if I could trade him, I’d trade him yesterday. And I would say, hell I can lose 94 games without you just as easily as I could lose 94 games with you. I don’t care about the OPS. I don’t care about none of that. This team made a bad deal when they signed Joey Votto to a 10-year contract. And he’s gonna make $22M and either next year or the following year he’s going to make $25M. There’s NO sanity on God’s Earth that justifies this being a good contract. How do you Reds fans put up with an announcer this vitriolic about his archaic obsession with RBIs and the "old ways?" I'd have a whole helluva lot more respect for the Diamondbacks if they would just be honest about their intentions. This whole "The stadium is in disrepair!" line is a total croc of :censored:, and everyone knows it. Just step up and be honest with everyone and say "We wanna find some dopey Phoenix suburb to bend over just like the Coyotes did". We all know thats the truth, so just have the balls enough to say it already. Arizonans are usually pretty dumb, but not dumb enough to not see what this all about. I'm usually all for the old guard of announcers because warts and all, they're better than the polished marketing men who do the job now, but Marty Brennaman just wears me out. Even Hawk Harrelson, who is the worst, at least seems to have a genuine love of the game (though his love of the White Sox has always rang a little hollow with me), and all his whining about the bad stuff does seem to be counterbalanced by enthusiasm for the good stuff. Bob Uecker has never been anything but your fun uncle. But whenever I hear about Marty making the news, it's only because he's bitching. He was bitching when he said the Cubs would never win a World Series because of their fans, he was bitching when an umpire blew a call and Reds fans threw garbage on the field until the game was delayed, now he's bitching about like the one legitimate All-Star on the Reds. This isn't to say he should just quit or whatever, because again, you want these guys hanging around as long as they can, I just think it needs to be understood that Marty Brennaman is a perpetually joyless prick. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

How do you Reds fans put up with an announcer this vitriolic about his archaic obsession with RBIs and the "old ways?" I don't listen to him. I grew up with Marty and Joe Nuxhall, but a nostalgic desire to hear him call games left years ago, which is a bummer because I used to feel about him the way Dodgers fans still feel about Vin Scully. He's just an old crank who doesn't know the game anymore. He only calls four innings these days anyways I think I finally stopped when he started feuding with Homer Bailey over who knows what. The Votto stuff is beyond reproach. Joey Votto is a great man who is quietly putting together one of the best careers in Reds history, is one of hitting's great scientists and dissecting his at bats is one of the few pleasures I have with this team. And yet our curmudgeon announcer is leading a mob against him because he has the gall to take walks and signed a big contract (like every other team in MLB would've given him) which means he's turned a segment of the fan base against our best player since Barry Larkin. There's a portion of the fanbase who will never get over the Big Red Machine. They call into local radio and ask why the team isn't as good as it was 40 gottam years ago. Marty Brennaman is a big part of that. They were good, they will never be that good ever again so stop holding the current team to that expectation. Let's move on.
