This thread should be renamed: DG_NOW and dfwabel's weird obsessive hate for the Warriors.

It's neither weird nor obsessive.

We both have our reasons and last season's thread contain the majority of my (possibly our) hang ups with the organization.

Oh please. The Warriors have been the biggest story in the NBA over the past three seasons (OK tied with LeBron and the Cavs). Critique doesn't equal hate and, in any event, Steph is having an off year compared to last and Russell Westbrook is averaging a triple double. It's not a reach to think Westbrook should be regarded as the better player right now.

I'll indulge just once more an move on. Steph Curry is a great player. He deserved the MVP awards he won the last two years (inasmuch as the NBA won't give it to LeBron every season the way they didn't Michael every season).

Russell Westbrook is averaging a triple double. That hasn't been done since Oscar Robertson. Steph had a video game season last year and Russ is having one this year. By that metric, he deserves to be starting in an exhibition game over Steph Curry. That doesn't mean Curry isn't an all-star; simply that he isn't as good as Westbrook has been this season.

And if we're posting fun memes, I raise you this:

All-Star voting breakdown:

The new fan/player/media split is fun. Probably good that the tiebreaker is the fan vote. Isaiah Thomas was robbed.

The full results of player voting are fascinating: http://official.nba.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2017/01/2017-All-Star-Starters-Player-Voting-Results.pdf

Most of the top five in each conference are pretty clear (with a toss up between DeRozan and Isaiah and Boogie and Davis).

I was anti-Kyrie for a while but his peers clearly love him. They definitely love LeBron and appreciate what Westbrook and Harden are doing. I think the numbers for Giannis are shocking for just how high they are.

The TrueHoop guys thought Kawhi might be snubbed by his peers, but no. Looks like no one likes Draymond; he's a top ten player but that's not reflected in the player votes.

Anyway, it's a fun look at player sentiment. Good on the NBA for doing it this way.

I really can't bring myself to care about the Warriors anymore. I liked it when I had to look for silver linings, keep hoping that draft picks and trades would pan out (which they often didn't), and I liked the pleasant surprise of the upset. Winning that championship after a brief bit of competitive build-up was wonderous, but I felt a serious sense of loss over the next season and this one. The sad sack team I'd grown to love had finally won it all, but lost all of the character that made me a fan of those crappy teams. It reminds me of this Star Trek: TNG quote:

"The first vessel that I served on as captain was called Stargazer. It was an overworked, underpowered vessel, always on the verge of flying apart at the seams. In every measurable sense, my Enterprise is far superior. But there are times when I would give almost anything... to command the Stargazer again. 1"

I enjoy the success, but I don't feel all that invested in a team that signed the best free agent on the market to stockpile an already-powerful team. I can't root for overexposed stars doing dumb things. In a way, I want my crappy, irrelevant team back.

Right. We all know nobody's beating the Warriors this year, and that this season is just an extended deathmarch towards the inevitable Cavs rematch in the Finals.

The season means nothing. It would make the most sense for all of us to politely sit on our hands and wait for June, but as basketball fans we need something to talk about and hope for. And when the playoffs come, the Spurs will try and save us, the Rockets will try and save us, and They the North will try and save us, and a healthy Clippers has just as good a shot as any of them.

History says no.

We have NEVER had 3 straight NBA Finals involving the same teams.

Maybe the Rockets can reach back for some 1986 magic?

Back in '86, everyone thought the Lakers/Celtics were invincible- but the Rockets proved us wrong.
