Exactly. It doesn't make much sense to me. Google owns Youtube/Nest/, Facebook owns Instagram/Whatsapp, Microsoft owns Linkedin, Twitter owns Vine/Periscope, Apple owns Beats. All of those companies had no problem keeping the branding unique for their subsidiaries. My only guess is they saw what their rival AT&T is doing with DirecTV and figured they'd do the same?
