thats my guess. dont think they'd have a matte and gloss version of the same helmet. unless there's some other design going on that one.

They wore the regular helmets in the spring game yesterday so I'd guess the glossy ones are just their old helmets that they've decided to repurpose and order more of to use for practice.

It's not really all that uncommon for teams to have a set of practice helmets, even if they're the same color as one of their actual helmets. Prior to last season Oregon always had regular dark green helmets that were exclusively for practice:

And Oregon State has worn their old glossy black helmets for practice for the last several seasons:

Washington has done the same with their old gold helmets:

Those Washington helmets are their game helmets as well. They moved back to those from the satin gold last year thankfully.

Yea, but they still have a separate set of gold for practice and one for game. They wore the scared practice helmets one game to 'show their hard work' or something

Sounds like some new looks coming for Oregon at the spring game. Apparently they are going a little more traditional, meaning no more navy blue or orange from last year.

Sounds promising as an Oregon fan. Sticking to the more traditional colors will certainly please a lot of people, although I still don't expect them to completely abandon the obscure designs. If it were me I'd look back at the 2015 Rose Bowl uniform and use that as a base to create a more consistent and cohesive set. They can still keep coming out with some flashy things once and awhile but it'd be nice if there was more of a definitive direction for it all.

I take what he said as them still going with a modern set but without the extraneous colors and numerous one-offs that plagued Oregon the last couple seasons.  I expect the main colors used to be green, yellow, white, black, and silver/gray.

I actually like the Webfoots uniforms as a one off type thing. Wouldn't mind seeing those stick around in the future.

@Webfooter I would expect that, too. And hopefully when he mentioned simplifying things, he means using a consistent template. Playing with the colors is one thing, but Oregon was way too "one-off" happy last year. There is zero cohesion here at all and they hardly have a primary template anymore. They were unrecognizable at times.

I would like to see a whole set of these in green and yellow with black and white as the accent colors.

Gophers have been wearing the glossy helmets in practice for years.

 

The one prediction I'll make is that the Gold is worn more, and the brick pattern will be replaced with a wooden pattern.

I'd rather they stay far, far way from this one. It gives me flashbacks of those overdesigned Affliction shirts meatheads used to wear.

If Oregon picked one of these designs I think they'd be good to go. I like the Webfoots design the better of the two.
