2017 NFL Offseason: Firin', hirin', signin', draftin'!

The Mariners do the retractable roof better than just about anyone, but that's because the roof is pretty much literally a separate piece from the stadium which is used to cover the train station most of the time (which is kind of brilliant dual usage if you ask me). It would stand to reason that it would'nt have a really great "seal" like other stadiums. But other stadiums that are sealed better, such as Chase Field, basically feel like watching baseball in a giant shoe box with the lid taken off. It's absolutely necessary to have that kind of a stadium for the downright BRUTAL Phoenix summers (they're idiots for wanting to move, BTW), but it definitely changes the atmosphere and usually not for the better.

yeah an "umbrella" type roof is ideal.  Even the thing that they were considering for KC that could roll to cover the football stadium one day and then the baseball the next would be ok.  While I"ve never been, Safeco looks great.  Don't need for it to be "sealed".  I get that if you want to run AC then it should be, but wouldn't just having the shade that the roof would provide be enough to lower it a few degrees?

Looking ahead to the 2017 season, very solid chance the Falcons play in that Thursday Night Kickoff game, no matter the result of the Super Bowl.  Should the Falcons lose, they conveniently play at New England and the Patriots have non-exciting home schedule.  Should the Falcons win, not only do they get to open their new building with a big banner-raising ceremony, but they also host Green Bay and Dallas next season.

I want SO MUCH to hate the Niners and their dumbass moves. But damnit, John Lynch is one of my ALL TIME favorite players. This has high potential to crash and burn, but dammit, he may just be perfect for that job.

God damnit, Jed York. Stop doing this to me.

Ok, wait. SIX YEARS for BOTH Lynch and Kyle Shanahan? That part kinda screams "Same ol dumbass Niners."

EDIT: Ok so this is either one of two things. It's either Shannahan saying ok I'll take the HC job but there's NO WAY I'm getting done like y'all did to Harbaugh, so I'm bringing in my own GM. Good with you Jed? Ok good cause I'm bringing in John Lynch and we're gonna do our own damn thing and if you don't like it, lick my sack. OR, what I suspect is probably more likely, it's just idiot Jed being idiot Jed again and throwing :censored: at the wall to see what will stick. This Could work out surprisingly well, or it's gonna be the biggest disaster they've had yet. I have this suspicion that it's probably the latter because Jed York has shown that he has absolutely no ability to learn from his mistakes, and absolutely refuses to sit back like he should and not meddle in daily operations. If it's gonna work it's because this is a move that totally defanged ownership in terms of daily operations, and I seriously doubt that's the case. The Niners have to do a TON of things differently if they wanna be successful, but the first thing they have to do is find a way to dump Jed York in the middle of the Pacific Ocean in an empty kiddie pool. Short of that, they're always gonna suck.

Wasn't job security a requirement to land anyone with the Niners this time around?  I kept reading how shallow the pool might've been otherwise.

Just hope that Lynch isn't another Matt Millen--ironically enough, another Fox NFL top-three analyst that went into a GM job with no front office experience at all.

However, I think Lynch will do a better job than Millen did in Detroit; Millen, at least to his credit, eventually admitted that the responsibilities were too overwhelming for him.  Lynch's father is also a radio executive in San Diego, so at least he can rely on that expertise as far as the intra-office stuff.  I also hope Kyle Shanahan makes Lynch look good too.

Apparently the colts are sticking with pagano for another year. I wonder how colts fans feel about this

I'm perfectly fine with giving him one more shot. Grigson as GM was the much bigger problem, and Irsay made the right move in my book. If Pagano doesn't get it done this season, then we can let him go.

This is such a bad idea, but on the flip side I would absolutely love to see the Patriots play in an stadium full of 87,000 screaming people who would probably not be sad to watch the Patriots die.  Tom Brady is going to have bags of :censored: flung at him and that is going to be awesome.

  • 2 weeks later...

The Dolphins signed Cameron Wake to a two-year $19 million contract extension. I may be going out on a limb here, but those two years could be his last given his age and all. I'm hopeful that he'll retire with Miami when the time comes. As for the amount, I don't think it's all that much (or as much as I expected), with him having that comeback year and all, I think he deserves it.

Top 3 things I'd like to see done by the Redskins to the offense this offseason:

1. Resign QB Kirk Cousins to a 5 year $55 million guaranteed contract

2a. Let WR Desean Jackson walk

2b. Lure WR Alshon Jeffrey away from Chicago

3. Use the franchise tag on WR Pierre Garçon
