The MetLife Stadium Apocalypse

Another question. What would happen if somehow the Giants and Jets both end up hosting their respective conference Championship Game? They are usually played back to back on a Sunday. Do they have some sort of flex scheduling clause with the TV Stations so they could put one game on Saturday?

In the case of both Giants and Jets hosting a conference championship game, one game would be played Sunday night and the other Monday night.

Did some research and there's an article from a few years back where Goodell answers this exact question.

Why have a playoff game on Monday?

Because if the game is moved to Saturday then the 2 teams playing Saturday will have a short week. Moving the game to Monday gives at least 7 days between games. It also gives the NFL that coveted prime time monday night game that is great for advertisers etc... Having 14 or 13 days  before Super Bowl isn't really an issue.

Here's link to the article. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2008/11/26/league-has-plan-for-jets-giants-home-title-games/

You sat in $hitty seats. The club level is really good, but its the bars dont keep tabs; drinks were charged by each. You can keep a tab at the Coliseum club seats (as you can Baltimore, Dallas, Tennessee, Tampa Bay, Miami and Jax)

Because what money Jerry and Jean Jones could put into art, the 49ers needed to put into seismic/earthquake prevention.

Levi's is a B. However to become an A in California, you must spend another $800 to $1B.

Digression: The Chase Center is likely going to hustle to break even after 15 years. This ain't like building The Palace.

Levis isn't crappy because of seismic considerations. Pac Bell Park and Petco Park are two of the best stadiums in MLB, and neither had price tags that were any more than their contemporaries. No the issue was the Niners had a flawed stadium model trying to incorporate the Lakers Staples Center design to it's ultimate conclusion. And the results sucked. The stadium has no character. Unless you're in the Tower of Power on the west side, you'd be hard pressed to know you're at a Niners game unless you looked at the endzones.

My guess would be to try to make the rest as equitable as possible. If you have a Conf. Championship game on Saturday, then one team is inevitably going to have to play on a short week (since the NFL insists on having each conference split their divisional round games between Sat and Sun for some silly reason). Whoever gets stuck playing their divisional round game on Sunday will have to turn around and play the conference championship on a short week. Since there's an extra week inbetween the conference championships and the Super Bowl, it's not as big an issue if the second conf. championship is on Monday.

It's probably for TV.  Both networks probably want Sunday games rather than Saturday, so the league splits them up.  Not silly at all.

It's probably this. Absent TV considerations, it probably wouldn't be that hard to run one conference's games on the same day all playoffs, and alternate who gets the extra day every year.

The trouble with that is that there are three networks that host Wild Card and Divisional games; CBS, Fox, and NBC. NBC is assigned one game by the NFL to cover, and CBS/Fox cover whatever AFC/NFC games remain. Inevitably, one network gets left out of Sunday time regardless. From a pure revenue equality standpoint, it'd make more sense to have both games from the conference that NBC covers on Sunday, and then have the two games from the conference that NBC is not assigned to on Saturday. That way, the network on the less appealing day has two games, while the networks with only one game apiece have them on the "best" day.

Had to correct you there, but don't forget that ESPN/ABC covers a Wild Card game, which appears as if that game will always be on Saturday afternoon IMO. So two networks will easily miss out on a Sunday on that first week of the playoffs. Other than that, part of me does miss the old format where NBC would have a Wild Card doubleheader and the second announcer is there for the afternoon game.

Good point, I forgot that ESPN hosted a Wild Card game too. So there's even less of a marketing reason to do it on wild card weekend.
