Sorry this is a little late, but I've been pretty busy since Saturday...

Hats off to Jake Allen... No one else on the Blues though. They all played like Garbage in front of him. The Wild managed to do everything that they needed to do on paper, and yet somehow lost in 5...

They shut down Tarasenko for the most part, Dubnyk played his best hockey in almost 2 months, won nearly every faceoff, controlled the puck for most of the game, and outshot the Blues... And yet another disappointing end to the season.

I may seem a little salty, and I am, but I would rather see the Blues go deep in the playoffs than the Blackhawks...

Also I don't understand why some people think that the Wild need to just start over. The Wild are a talented team with some good prospects coming up...

The Wild don't need to blow it up and start over, but they do need better finishers up front. Dubnyk did his job, and on offense the Wild did almost everything they had to except finish their scoring chances. Instead of the back of the net, too many shots ended up bouncing off Allen or going into his glove.

As for WAS-TOR, I knew the Leafs were doomed the moment NBCSN showed Justin Bieber in the house wearing their jersey. :P

Blues/Perds sounds like it's going to resemble 4-7 trips to the DMV.

Yeah I don't understand either. The Wild coaches shook hands with the Blues coaching staff but immediately booked it into the locker room. I had to watch the video a few times to make sure I was seeing correctly. That's my only complaint.

Who frickin cares. Big deal. The handshakes are phony and stupid.

Know what else is stupid? Thanks to the NHL's stupid playoff format, there are two good teams left in the whole playoffs and they play each other in the second round.

A tradition of teams finishing their series by respecting one another with shaking of hands is "Phony and Stupid"?

Put down the meth pipe and kindly see yourself out of this thread and even more so - off this web site.

Regardless of who wins or loses, the Stanley Cup playoffs are one of the most traditional and respected battles for the most prized trophy in all professional sports. You sir/mam - are a disgrace to anyone thinking they are a hockey "fan".

I'd rather not touch Bruce Boudreau for fear of catching whatever curse he has myself.

Honestly throwing a :censored: fit about a handshake line is ticky-tack Cardinal fan stuff and we should all be better than that.

While I "Like" your first comment as it's funny, your second comment is a poor attempt at being a troll as usual.

Pointing out that one team showed a classless act isn't throwing a "fit" but giving general knowledge to those that may not have watched the end of the Blues/Wild series. Sorry if bringing 2017 NHL Playoff coverage to an entire forum has upset you.

Followed by your "Insert Hatred for STL" comment is the cherry on top. Shouldn't you be worried about your Rams? I mean, Did anyone go to their games after week one. Mind your own business. I have no issue with you.

To @Ice_Cap and all the other Leafs fans out there: GGs. That was one heck of a series. 6 games, each decided by one goal? You can't ask for more. You guys are going to be very, very good very, very soon. It wouldn't surprise me at all if you guys won the Cup before we did.

Now, the Penguins. I'm calling Pens in 6 :(

(Also, if you guys need a bandwagon, feel free to join. TBH the Caps winning it all will be just as much of a success/underdog story than if the Leafs won it ;))

The handshake isn't phony or stupid. The hockey fans who jerk off to how classy it makes the sport are what's annoying.

Here's the second round: 1 vs 2, 6 vs 8, 9 vs 12 and 10 vs 16. That's really dumb.

Penguins in 6.

The handshake line is more or less irrelevant and harping on it like Bruce Boudreau personally shivved a baby is overdoing it.  So the Wild coaches bailed, at least they didn't call a Code Red during the line.  Such is life, let's move on and worry about Nashville.

"Class" is a peculiar obsession of the Best Fans in Baseball.  While I am a Cards and Blues fan, I have little time for that segment of the fanbase and its desires n'est-ce pas.  As for the Rams, they don't have a 1st Round pick to throw away this year, so I've actually been able to avoid draft coverage because I'm not one of those maniacs who does an ungodly amount of 7-round mock drafts that seem....really, really pointless.  Also attendance did fall, but it had the benefit of getting Jeff Fisher fired, so there.

Yes, ESPN needs to drill home the fact Pittsburgh is 8-1 against Washington in the playoffs. Blech.

This Penguins team is a bit weaker than last year's Championship team, but they still have the Caps number.

If Washington wins this series; it's not going to be in 4 or 5. Not even in 6. I have a feeling for Washington to slay their arch-enemy; they will win the series in a hard-fought 7.

They did everything they needed to except, of course, put the puck in the net...

I can't dispute how well Jake Allen played.  He did leave some doors open that the Wild could not step through, but there's no question that he was the difference.  Nobody else on St. Louis really had a big series.  And I totally agree with you on Dubnyk.  I was blown away reading fan comments blaming him for these low-socring losses.  I think they were hung over from his so-so play late in the regular season, but none of this was on him.  He's not the one who could not put the puck in the net and for the most part he played pretty well.

It was a tough way to end the season.  The Wild fooled me a bit this year.  With a new "regular season" coach, it looked like they were going to avoid the annual swoon.  But they did not.  They played with a lot of heart in Game 1 but after five games, they just looked like a team that could not score.  Credit to Allen; blame to them.

I know fan opinions don't matter, but it bugs me that every mediocre Wild season has an excuse.  We blamed Yeo for the past mediocrity.  Now we ran into a hot goalie.  Wild fans seem to think that this core may actually contend for a Cup some day.  How many times do we have to go through regular season swoons and hapless playoff rounds?  This core has probably accomplished all it's going to accomplish (the only pause I have in saying that is the randomness of the NHL playoffs).  Is it talent?  Chemistry? Leadership?  I don't know, but every season is the same.  The funny thing about Minnesota fans is that they have no delusions about the Twins, Wolves, or Vikings.*  But Wild fans think the team is nearly elite.  I guess making the playoffs (and usually sneaking in) every year in a sport in which it's a 50/50 proposition is pretty darn successful around here.

*Well the hard-core purple-bleeders sometimes do about the Vikings.

Penguins in 6.

Because the NHL has a hard-on for Pittsburgh and want to make it easy AF for them to get to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Which is why they're facing Columbus and Washington in successive series.

I kinda think they do.  Of course, the contract situation probably prevents it.  The Wild's season is annually pretty easy to predict:

  • Moments where they look like a top-tier team
  • A prolonged period of haplessness
  • Entering the playoffs as one of the few teams without even an outside chance at the Cup
  • An uninspired playoff loss (be it Round 1 or 2)

There's something not "big time" here.  They lost the battle of the winning streaks with Columbus.  They could not compete with the Blackhawks. And when they enter a playoff series against Chicago, I think everyone knows how it will end.

Their biggest problem (as highlighted in this series) probably is a reliable finisher or sniper.  Will that be enough to get them over the hump?  Who knows.

I kinda wish they could blow it up because it seems like starting over is inevitable; may as well be now.
