I went to a hockey tournament over the weekend with NHL Seattle employees playing and in attendance, and everyone was extremely tight lipped about it. And the color scheme feels at odds with the Kraken idea; bright red, a tealish color and black lines up with the website colors, and you'd think a kraken-based name would have a darker color scheme then that. While living in Milan I was surprised to find out that the Italians have no such connection between pink and girls. Sockeyes is by far a better name, but sharks and whales don’t mess with mythical giant squid. Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half. If it had been Dreger or something, it'd maybe have more validity to it. It's as valuable as "my brother's uncle's cousin's former roommate said X". I'd hate Kraken as the team name.
