I do agree that the NHL overexpanded and that Houston would have been a better destination than Phoenix. Any particular reason you went with Anaheim over Tampa Bay?

Or why Winnipeg moved to Houston when Winnipeg should have a team?

On why Anaheim over Tampa Bay? Because of stronger ownership (Disney over Phil Esposito's group) and a new arena (Anaheim Arena).

On why Winnipeg moved to Houston when Winnipeg should have a team? Well to simply state Winnipeg Arena was a dump (built in 1955 and already outdated) and the MTS Centre wouldn't be built until 2004. Yeah I know Houston wouldn't have a new arena either until 2003 but it's a bigger market and a rivalry with Dallas would be implemented.

It's always bugged me that the Pacific Coast League has four divisions but both divisions in each conference play the identical schedule. Therefore I would get rid of the divisions and have the top two from each conference make the playoffs, with the semifinal round being a crossover format (1st from one conference plays 2nd from the other).

Coastal Conference

Tacoma

Reno

Colorado Springs

Salt Lake

Fresno

Sacramento

Las Vegas

Tucson

Central Conference

Memphis, Iowa, Nashville, Omaha, New Orleans, Round Rock, OKC, Albuquerque,

With recent talk of MLB realignment I sprouted an idea in this ol' brain of mine.

3 leagues. 2 divisions in each like the old first division second division setup. 10 teams per league. Leagues are regional: created by combining divisions from current leagues with a few changes.

Playoffs: Take the top 2 teams from each league AND 2 wild cards based on record. Scheduling is spotty but interleague would be frequent. So:

Federal league: west:

Colorado

Houston

Texas

Seattle

Arizona

Oakland

Anaheim

San Francisco

San Diego

Los Angeles

National: central:

Chicago WS

Chicago cubs

St. Louis

Detroit

Minnesota

Baltimore

Cincinnati

Philadelphia

Kansas City

Milwaukee

American: East:

Toronto

New York mest

NYY

Boston

Cleveland

Washington

Pittsburgh

Tampa bay

Miami

Atlanta

Why is Philly in the Central and Pittsburgh in the East when Pitt is in western PA and Philly is in the east part of the state? And Baltimore should be in the east with Cleveland or Toronto in the central.

I'm guessing geography wasn't your strongest subject in school.

Initially I had toronto in the central. That change was fairly arbitrary and probably I should swap them and Baltimore.

Look, it's not entirely based on geography. A division with Philadelphia, Boston, new York, Atlanta, would be very tough. I not only tried for geograPhic sense to some extent but I also based it on the teams' success, attendance, etc.

Historically Pittsburgh is more successful than Philly. Granted that predates the current ownership, but just throwing that out there.

My MLB Realignment:

Stay 16-14. Swap Colorado and either Texas or Tampa Bay. NL goes to 4 divisions of 4 (no wild card), AL stays 5-5-4 with one WC.

NL

West: Arizona, LA Dodgers, San Diego, San Francisco

Central: St. Louis, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati, Milwaukee

South: Atlanta, Houston, Miami, Tampa Bay or Texas

East: NY Mets, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington

AL

West: Colorado, LA Angels, Oakland, Seattle

Central: Chicago Sox, Cleveland, Detroit (or Texas), Kansas City, Minnesota

East: Baltimore, Boston, NY Yankees, Tampa Bay (or Detroit), Toronto

Most efficient format distance wise I can come up with under current MLB scheduling.

72 games played in your own division, 144 in your own league, 18 outside. Total milledge for this would be 1266195

American League

Midwest Division

----------------

Chicago Cubs

Kansas City Royals

Milwaukee Brewers

Minnesota Twins

St. Louis Cardinals

Mountain Division

-----------------

Arizona Diamondbacks

Colorado Rockies

Houston Astros

Seattle Mariners

Texas Rangers

Pacific/California Division

---------------------------

LA Angels of Anaheim

Los Angeles Dodgers

Oakland Athletics

San Diego Padres

San Francisco Giants

National League

Atlantic Division

-----------------

Boston Red Sox

New York Mets

New York Yankees

Philadelphia Phillies

Toronto Blue Jays

Great Lakes

-----------

Chicago White Sox

Cincinnati Reds

Cleveland Tigers

Detroit Tigers

Pittsburgh Pirates

Southeast

---------

Atlanta Braves

Baltimore Orioles

Florida Marlins

Tampa Bay Rays

Washington Nationals

Willing to do others if people give me scheduling formats to work with.

If the Astros are moved to the AL, here is a quick realignment and scheduling scheme I concocted. In each league, the two division champions and the two (or three) best remaining teams would qualify for the postseason. If MLB wants to retain a 162-game schedule, they could easily add additional inter-division games with matchups that would rotate from year to year. I realize that the schedule is EXTREMELY unbalanced, which isn't the most ideal scenario if there are going to be wild-card teams. Oh well.

Geographically, the Mariners get royally screwed.

Financially/competitively, the Blue Jays get royally screwed.

Shows how much you know. The St Pete Times Forum was opened in 1996, and is going through new renovations now. The Honda Center was opened in 1990. Also, the Lightnings' new ownership improved the Lightning 12th seed to the Eastern Conference Finals in one season.

Seattle is pretty far removed from any other baseball city. I think they're stuck traveling longer than most regardless.

There's only four teams within 1000 miles of Seattle. The Bay Area and LA teams.

I tried everything with Seattle. Nothing helps without hurting somebody else more. Switch San Diego for Seattle the total milledge goes up to 1269525.

As far as Toronto goes, Tampa Bay has found a way to compete. Toronto has a metro population of over 5,000,000 people. They have no right to be singing the small market blues if that's their excuse for not being able to compete.

My MLB realignment/scenario:

After the 2011 season, the MLB decides to expand. They add a team to Charlotte Charlotte and Omaha (to be named later) and go with the football style divisions. Also, they eliminate interleague play except for a weekend and May and a weekend in June where each team will square off against their designated "rivals" (NYY-NYM, CHC-CHW, etc.). Here are the new divisions:

AL

AL East

Boston Red Sox

New York Yankees

Kansas City Royals

Toronto Blue Jays

AL South

Tampa Bay Rays

Charlotte ?????s

Baltimore Orioles

Cleveland Indians

AL North

Chicago White Sox

Milwaukee Brewers

Detroit Tigers

Minnesota Twins

AL West

Texas Rangers

Oakland A's

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

Seattle Mariners

NL

NL East

Philadelphia Phillies

New York Mets

Washington Nationals

Pittsburgh Pirates

NL South

Houston Astros

Atlanta Braves

Florida Marlins

Omaha San Antonio ???????s

NL North

Chicago Cubs

St. Louis Cardinals

Cincinnati Reds

Colorado Rockies

NL West

San Francisco Giants

Arizona Diamondbacks

Los Angeles Dodgers

San Diego Padres

And the interleague matchups:

Boston-Philadelphia

New York-New York

Kansas City-St. Louis

Toronto-Pittsburgh

Tampa Bay-Florida

Charlotte-Atlanta

Baltimore-Washington

Cleveland-Cincinnati

Chicago-Chicago

Milwaukee-San Antonio

Detroit-Arizona

Minnesota-Colorado

Texas-Houston

Oakland-San Francisco

Los Angeles-Los Angeles

Seattle-San Diego
