The Pointless Realignment Outpost

If the Big Ten was paring down teams they'd eject Maryland before tossing Purdue.

It would be pretty dumb if they tossed Maryland... Say this is 5 years down the road and Maryland is producing wins, attendance, etc and Purdue is in the basement like they have been. Who would you take? Maryland was with the ACC since the beginning and they chose to leave. Think of it like this... Would you take an aging veteran over a rising rookie? Chances are you won't.

Maryland is going to be a doormat in the Big Ten.(It's going to be a cold day in hell before I acknowledge them as B1G) They are also $50 million down the hole, thanks to John Swafford's GettinThatCash exit fee.

Also, UCF for Clemson? And Clemson to the SEC? Get out of here with that.

I, for one, welcome our new Alien Space Bat overlords. Aside from very brief periods of success, Maryland athletics are typified by sustained mediocrity and uniforms that make small children go blind.

and Purdue is in the basement like they have been.

I dance a small jig.

Who would you take?

Purdue.

Maryland was with the ACC since the beginning and they chose to leave.

The Big Ten's quest for markets and financial assistance had nothing to do with Maryland's decision making process I am sure. Regardless of them being a perpetual weak sister in the conference.

Maryland has the better part of a century playing major college sports. Boise State or Louisville (retch) would be your rising rookie. Maryland's another aging veteran who used to double as the sick man of the ACC.

There is absolutely no logical rationale to your changes. Why is Colorado taken out of the PAC-12 in favor of Baylor? How does that make sense? Or why was Boston College removed from the ACC? Or Wyoming put in MAC when it's closest conference opponent is Northern Illinois? Every change you made was just random nonsense.

Since this is about dream conference posts (pointless or ideal or such), how about a Missouri-only conference of public universities (excluding the Mizzou Tigers)?:

Mizzou State (formerly Southwest Mizzou State)

Mizzou-Kansas City

Mizzou-St. Louis

Mizzou S&T (formerly Mizzou-Rolla)

Truman (formerly Northeast Mizzou State)

Northwest Mizzou State

Southeast Mizzou State

Mizzou Western State

Mizzou Southern State

Cemtral Mizzou

Harris-Stowe State

Lincoln (Mo.)

Even though it won't ever happen, I just wanna know you guys' thoughts about this.

Why did you put Mizzou in every name? Missouri-Columbia is the only school that uses it.

How about "Why not?" as a better question?

And also, it's not much of an idea. Anybody can make a list of all the public schools in a state, nevermind that they're in various division levels.

Besides, this is what this topic is all about, about posting random dream-like pointless conference/league alignments within sports. You're saying it like it's a sin or something. Geez!

Actually it was named pointless because a vast majority of people here were tired of realignment proposals flooding threads, so they finally created one for those of us who do like coming up with ideas. The "pointless" in the name is more in kind of a passive aggressive way because they think it's a stupid topic. It's not really meant to mean a thread to just throw out a bunch of random nonsense.

Anyone willing to do a realignment of Minor League Baseball, including moving cities around classes?

Here's a little-bit more realistic vision of what college football alignment could look like in about 10 years.

The NCAA splits Divison 1 into 3 seperate football divisons, D1.1, D1.2, and D1.3. D1.1 contains the power 5 conferences, totaling 72 teams. D1.2 contains 88 teams, including the current group of five conferences (which I listed the alignments of), along with two more conferences from FCS (which I did not list the alignments of). D1.3 contains the remaing FCS teams and conferences.

Each divison has an 8 team playoff and a national champion, along with 10-15 bowls.

Under this scenario, the SEC and Big 10 have 16 teams each. Instead of splitting into two 8-team divisions, they would split into four 4 team divisions, with the division winner competing in a 4-team playoff for the conference championship.

For example, here's how the SEC would work with 16 teams-

SOUTH-

Mississippi State

Ole Miss

Alabama

Auburn

WEST-

LSU

Arkansas

Missouri

Texas A&M

NORTH-

Tennessee

Vanderbilt

Kentucky

Virginia

EAST-

Florida

Georgia

South Carolina

NC State

Schedule-

3 vs Division Opponents,

2 vs Permenant Opponents,

3 vs Rotating nonDivison Opponents

3 vs D 1.1 non-conference opponents

1 vs D 1.2 opponents

Permanent opponents-

MSU- UK and aTm

OM- LSU and VDY

ALA- LSU and UT

AUB- ARK and UG

LSU- OM and ALA

ARK- AUB and VIR

MIZ- USC and NCST

aTm- MSU and UG

UT- ALA and UF

VDY- OM and USC

UK- MSU and UF

VIR- ARK and NCST

UF- UT and UK

UG- aTm and AUB

USC- VDY and MIZ

NSCT- VIR and MIZ

I think if Virginia Tech and Virginia are able to split up (the state government has a mandate, law or whatever saying they can't unless both go to bigger conferences or something to that effect), Virginia Tech would go to the SEC. They're the bigger draw and the SEC is the better conference. It was a possibility a couple years back that the Big 10 may go after Virginia which would allow VaTech to go the SEC.

Two things that I think should be changed about your idea:

-Both leagues need to be equal... NOT 14 in AL & 16 in NL

-Interleague play is a must... Gives each league a taste of the other league and provides a way for managers to challenge themselves with lineups

Other than that it's all good

Three division winners two wild cards per. wild card teams play 3-game series, all series after that are 7 games. the conference are separate and don't play each other till the finals, i think its make a rivalry like Lakers-Celtics feel even specialer.

this is the alignment that i think works best.
