About the only way a Pac-12 team makes the playoffs is for Washington and Washington State to win out, and whomever wins the Apple Cup wins the conference. But neither one played an out-of-conference slate worth a crap. So we can basically eliminate the Pac-12. The next two conferences in trouble are the Big XII and the ACC. I'm not sold on Miami and TCU finishing undefeated before their conference championship games. And, should Georgia go 12-0 and lose a close game to Alabama in the SEC Championship, I don't see how an 11-1 Notre Dame gets in while a 12-1 Georgia, which won at Notre Dame this season, doesn't. Plus, this is the team that probably should've lost at Iowa as well. Ohio State also seems to have improved (especially in the passing game) since the Oklahoma debacle. Right, but 2016 showed that you don't have to be a conference champion to be able to get inclusion into the playoffs. Get the four best teams, no matter what their end-of-season distinction is. I think there's a decent chance a 12-1 Georgia makes the playoff if Notre Dame runs the table to finish 11-1, but less so if ND ends up 10-2 or worse. You could be left with a situation where you're choosing between ND, TCU and Georgia (for example) for two spots, and ND's resume would be better than TCU's, which is better than Georgia's, but UGA beat ND. I would be very intrigued to see how the committee would handle that. UGA's existence as a potential 12-1, non-SEC champion is the only thing that keeps me from feeling supremely confident about an 11-1 Notre Dame being a playoff lock. Also, if Alabama loses the SEC title game, they will not have a particularly strong resume -- their best possible win would be a 10-2 Texas A&M, but it seems more realistic their best wins will turn out to be 9-3 and 8-4 fellow SEC West teams that aren't going to be ranked in the top 15. Florida State needs to beat Clemson just to get to six wins this season, which ain't happening. Granted, they could get waiver into a bowl game but that's assuming they beat Syracuse and Florida, but that doesn't seem all that likely at this point. Don't be shocked if there are a few more games "bought" for either Dec. 2 (conference championship Saturday) or/and Dec. 9 (Army/Navy wknd.) to get teams who lost a game due to Hurricane Hank or Irma bowl eligible. Spaziani is also coaching for a new AD, who was hired in June. Jarmond came from Ohio State and Michigan State before that.
