When did the "dat hat" trend start?

I've always worn low-profile hats. I guess a true "dad hat" has the adjustable buckle on the back. 

 

Lids even categorizes hats like this now. Who knew? I was shocked to see the Warriors championship hat be unstructured.

 

Oh well.

I kind of get it, because those hats (curved bill, cheap material, tiny stitched emblem, slouch-ish kind of style) don't really have a name that I'm aware of.

See, I look terrible in high crowns. Finding out that New Era made low profile 59fiftys was a revelation.
